Causes

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Read trouble codes and LIVE DATA. Confirm P0CB0 is current; note freeze-frame data and when it set.
  2. Compare temperature reading for sensor 'N' to other battery temp sensors and expected pack temperature. If the reading is clearly out of range or shows open/high voltage, proceed.
  3. Visually inspect sensor 'N' connector, wiring harness, and nearby harness clamps for chafing, pin damage, corrosion or moisture intrusion.
  4. Ensure the vehicle is made safe: disable high-voltage system per manufacturer procedures before any work on the battery pack or high-voltage wiring. Only qualified personnel should access HV components.
  5. With the vehicle safely isolated or with appropriate precautions per OEM guidance, backprobe the sensor connector (or remove sensor if required) and measure voltage at the module side with ignition/vehicle power ON. Verify reference supply voltage and sensor signal voltage against specs.
  6. Measure sensor resistance (thermistor) at the connector with pack at known temperature (or remove sensor to bench-test). Compare to OEM resistance-vs-temperature chart.
  7. Check continuity between sensor signal and control module input; check for shorts to battery positive and to ground. Repair any open or shorted wiring.
  8. Repair or replace the sensor or damaged harness/connector as required. If wiring and sensor test good but fault persists, test/replace the battery management/control module input per OEM diagnostic flow.
  9. After repairs, clear codes and perform a drive/charge cycle or manufacturer-specified test to confirm the fault does not return and that live data looks plausible.
  10. If intermittent or non-reproducible, perform wiggle tests on harness with scope or data logger while monitoring live data; inspect harness routing for intermittent contact points.
