Multiple injector failures - bank 1

AI status

Page language: EN

Causes

  • Open or shorted injector circuits on bank 1
  • Faulty fuel injectors (shorted coil or internal failure)
  • Corroded or loose injector connectors or wiring harness
  • Low or missing injector supply voltage (fused power, relay, wiring)
  • Faulty ECM/PCM driver circuitry for injector outputs
  • Poor engine or chassis ground

Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated
  • Rough idle or multiple misfires on bank 1
  • Poor acceleration, hesitation or reduced power
  • Hard starting or will not start in severe cases
  • Increased fuel consumption or black exhaust smoke
  • Possible stalling or irregular engine behavior

What to check

  • Read and record all stored trouble codes and freeze-frame data; note conditions when code set
  • Visual inspection of injector connectors, wiring harness, and ground straps on bank 1 for damage, corrosion or disconnection
  • Verify battery voltage and charging system health
  • Check injector supply fuse and relay operation
  • Back-probe injector connector pins to verify supply voltage and switching signals while cranking/idle
  • Measure injector coil resistance for each injector on bank 1

Signal parameters

  • Injector supply voltage: approximately battery voltage (~11–14.5 V) with ignition ON
  • Injector coil resistance: typically in the range of 1–20 ohms (varies by injector type; check OEM spec)
  • Control signal: pulsed ground (ECM switches injector to ground) — pulse width varies with load (approx. 1–20 ms depending on conditions)
  • No short to ground or short to battery on injector control circuits when measured with wiring harness connected
  • Cranking/idle injector pulse frequency: varies with engine speed; verify using scope or lab meter

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Capture codes, freeze frame and live data; note any other injector or misfire codes.
  2. Perform visual inspection of bank 1 wiring, connectors, and grounds. Repair visible damage before electrical tests.
  3. Verify battery voltage and check fuse/relay for injector power. Replace blown fuse or faulty relay and retest.
  4. With ignition OFF, unplug bank 1 connector and measure injector coil resistances at the harness side and compare to OEM specs. Look for opens or shorts.
  5. With a noid light or oscilloscope, back-probe each injector connector while cranking/run to confirm the ECM is commanding pulses on the expected pins.
  6. If injectors show correct drive signals but do not function, bench-test or swap suspected injectors with known-good injectors from the other bank to see if fault follows injector.
  7. If drive signals are missing or abnormal for multiple injectors, check continuity between ECM injector driver pins and the injector harness, and inspect for shorts to ground or battery.
  8. Check and test ECM grounds and power feeds; repair any wiring issues.
  9. If wiring and injectors test good and multiple driver outputs on the ECM are faulty, consider ECM replacement or repair following manufacturer procedures (confirm with manufacturer service info before replacement).
  10. After repairs, clear codes and perform a road test/functional test. Re-scan to ensure the code does not return.

Likely causes

  • Damaged wiring harness or chafed insulation on bank 1 injector circuit
  • Corroded/loose multi-pin connector at the injector bank or fuel rail
  • Failed injector(s) with low or no coil resistance (short) or open coil
  • Blown fuse or failed fuel injector power relay feeding the injector rail
  • ECM driver transistor(s) failed (common when multiple injectors on same bank affected)
  • Intermittent ground or poor battery/charging voltage at ECM

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Multiple injector failures detected on bank 1 (P1295). ECM has flagged two or more injector circuit/operation faults on bank 1.
