P1410 — Fuel Tank Pressure System

Causes

• Faulty fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor
• Open, short or intermittent wiring/connectors to FTP sensor
• Failed EVAP vent control valve or purge valve
• Clogged or restricted EVAP lines or canister
• Loose or damaged fuel filler cap or tank hardware
• PCM/EVAP control module internal fault or incorrect reference voltage

Symptoms

• Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated
• Failed EVAP readiness or evaporative system test on emissions inspection
• Possible fuel odor near tank or filler
• Often no change in engine running/drivability, but EVAP-related driveability possible
• Difficulty completing self-tests or long crank times on some vehicles

What to check

• Retrieve freeze-frame data and all stored EVAP-related DTCs with a scan tool
• Confirm vehicle history: recent fuel cap removal, repairs, or fuel tank service
• Visually inspect FTP sensor, EVAP valve(s), hoses and vapor lines for damage or disconnection
• Inspect fuel filler cap for proper seating and condition
• Check for corrosion, bent pins or water intrusion at sensor and PCM connectors
• Perform smoke test or pressure/leak test of EVAP system to locate leaks

Signal parameters

• FTP sensor typical supply/reference: ~5.0 V reference (verify factory spec)
• Signal voltage range: approx. 0.1–4.9 V (vehicle dependent) corresponding to vapor pressure range (vacuum to slight positive pressure)
• Expected behavior: steady baseline at key ON, then change when system is commanded or when vacuum/pressure applied
• Resistance or continuity: check ground and 5V reference circuits for proper continuity and no short to battery
