Causes

  • Intake vacuum leak on bank 2 (manifold gasket, vacuum hose, PCV hose)
  • Sticking or contaminated throttle body/throttle plate
  • Faulty or stuck idle air control (IAC) actuator/stepper motor or electronic throttle actuator on bank 2
  • Faulty throttle position sensor (TPS) or throttle actuator position sensor
  • MAF or MAP sensor providing incorrect readings
  • Wiring/connectors open/shorted for idle control, TPS, MAF, MAP or ECU

Symptoms

  • Elevated idle RPM above normal target (surging possible)
  • Hard-to-control idle when cold or warm
  • Increased fuel consumption at idle
  • Rough idle or uneven idle between banks
  • Check Engine Light (MIL) on with P1507 stored
  • Possible hesitation or stumble when returning to idle

What to check

  • Retrieve freeze frame and freeze data: recorded RPM, engine temp, load, and other active DTCs
  • Compare actual RPM vs commanded idle RPM using a scan tool
  • Scan live data: throttle position/angle, throttle actuator command, IAC duty or position (if present), MAF, MAP, intake air temp, coolant temp, long/short term fuel trims, O2 sensor voltages on bank 2
  • Visually inspect intake manifold gaskets, vacuum lines, PCV hoses and connectors on bank 2
  • Perform smoke test to find vacuum leaks on bank 2 intake side
  • Inspect throttle body for carbon build-up and free movement of throttle plate

Signal parameters

  • Engine RPM (actual) vs Commanded Idle RPM
  • Throttle Position (%) or Angle (idle and commanded)
  • Throttle Actuator Position / Command (ETC systems)
  • IAC valve duty cycle or position (if equipped)
  • MAF g/s or MAP (kPa) at idle
  • Short-term and long-term fuel trims (bank 2)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a capable scan tool and confirm P1507 is current or historic; record freeze frame data.
  2. Verify engine is at normal operating temperature and that idle target is known; note commanded idle RPM and measured RPM.
  3. Check for additional related codes (MAF, MAP, TPS, EVAP, P1506 etc.) and resolve those first.
  4. With engine idling, observe live data: actual RPM, commanded idle, throttle position/angle, throttle actuator command, IAC position/duty, MAF/MAP, and fuel trims. Note anomalies on bank 2.
  5. Visually inspect intake boots, manifold gasket, vacuum hoses and PCV/evap plumbing on bank 2. Perform a smoke test to identify vacuum leaks.
  6. Clean the throttle body and throttle plate. Verify smooth throttle plate movement and that the throttle returns to closed position when commanded.
  7. If equipped with an idle air control valve, command it via scan tool (if possible) and observe movement/response; perform resistance checks per service data.
  8. Inspect wiring and connectors for the throttle actuator, TPS, IAC, MAF and MAP on the bank 2 side. Repair any damaged wiring/poor connections.
  9. If sensors (MAF, MAP, TPS) show suspect values, test/replace per manufacturer procedures. Check fuel trims and O2 sensors for corroborating evidence of unmetered air or sensor faults.
  10. After repairs, clear DTCs and perform a drive cycle or idle relearn/adaptation procedure as specified by the manufacturer. Confirm RPM returns to target and code does not reappear.
  11. If fault persists, consider ECU/PCM software updates or professional diagnosis for intermittent wiring or control module faults.

Likely causes

  • Vacuum leak on bank 2 intake manifold or hoses
  • Contaminated/sticking throttle body or idle actuator
  • Faulty throttle position/actuator sensor or wiring specific to bank 2

Fault status

⚠️ Status
