Causes

  • Open, short to ground or short to battery in the Driver 4 Line 7 wiring
  • Poor or corroded connector or terminal at the module or load
  • Blown fuse or failed relay protecting the circuit
  • Faulty actuator, motor, solenoid or other load on that output
  • Internal failure of the control module driver transistor or circuitry
  • Software or calibration error in the controlling module

Symptoms

  • Associated device controlled by Driver 4 Line 7 does not operate or operates intermittently
  • Blown fuse after attempting to operate the affected function
  • Circuit-related warning or module fault indicator (may be manufacturer-specific)
  • Loss of one or more functions related to the driver output (locks, windows, mirror, seat, etc.)
  • Related DTCs stored for the same circuit or device

What to check

  • Retrieve all stored DTCs and freeze-frame data; note ignition state and conditions when code set
  • Visually inspect wiring and connectors for damage, corrosion, water intrusion or push-out terminals
  • Check relevant fuses and relays; replace suspected blown fuses only after diagnosing cause
  • Backprobe the module output connector and measure voltage while commanding the function
  • Measure voltage and continuity to the load (actuator) and to ground; check for unintended shorts
  • Measure current draw of the load if possible (compare to specification or known-good load)

Signal parameters

  • Output should switch between 0 V (ground) and battery voltage (~11–14 V) when commanded
  • Some outputs may use PWM; expected duty cycle or frequency must be obtained from factory data
  • Normal load current varies by device; expect low current for logic outputs, higher (amps) for motors
  • Resistance from module output pin to the actuator should be within expected range (check OEM spec)
  • No high resistance at connectors; voltage drop under load should be minimal

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a scan tool, read P1677 and any other stored codes; record freeze frame and conditions.
  2. Identify the specific device/function tied to 'Driver 4 Line 7' using factory wiring diagrams or service information.
  3. Visually inspect the circuit from module to load; repair any obvious damage or corrosion.
  4. With connector unplugged, check fuse and relay continuity and visually inspect for damage.
  5. Command the function while backprobing the module output: confirm switching voltage behavior and polarity.
  6. Measure resistance between module output and device; test device directly by applying regulated bench power if safe and appropriate.
  7. Check for short to ground or battery by measuring continuity from the output pin to power/ground with the circuit disconnected.
  8. If wiring and device test good, suspect module internal driver fault. Verify by substituting a known-good module or performing module bench tests per factory procedure.
  9. After repair or replacement, clear codes and operate the function through several cycles to confirm the fault does not return.
  10. If intermittent, perform wiggle tests on harness and connectors while operating the function to reproduce fault.

Likely causes

  • Damaged wire insulation chafed to chassis ground causing intermittent short
  • Loose terminal or push-pin connector at module or device causing high resistance
  • Failed load (window motor, door lock actuator, mirror motor, etc.) presenting low or high current draw
  • Failed output transistor inside the module after a transient overcurrent
  • Blown inline fuse or a bad connector to the fuse/relay box
