Causes

  • Faulty or clogged fuel injector at cylinder 7
  • Open, shorted, or high-resistance wiring or connector to the injector
  • Poor electrical connection (corrosion, bent pins, water intrusion)
  • Failed injector driver in the PCM/ECM
  • Low fuel rail pressure or inconsistent fuel supply
  • Mechanical engine problem (low compression, valve issue) causing abnormal injector response

Symptoms

  • Illuminated MIL / Check Engine Light
  • Rough idle or cylinder 7 misfire
  • Reduced engine power and acceleration
  • Increased fuel consumption or black smoke (rich condition)
  • Hard starting or extended crank times
  • Possible intermittent drivability faults under load or on acceleration

What to check

  • Read freeze frame and any additional stored codes; check for related misfire or injector codes
  • Visually inspect injector connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, or loose pins
  • Monitor live data: injector pulse width, commanded vs actual, and cylinder contribution (balance) data
  • Check fuel rail pressure and regulator operation under load
  • Measure injector electrical resistance at ambient temperature and compare to spec
  • Back-probe injector signal while cranking/running to verify switching voltage and pulse presence

Signal parameters

  • Typical injector coil resistance: commonly ~1–20 ohms (varies by manufacturer/type) — consult vehicle spec
  • Typical injector pulse width at idle: ~1–4 ms (depends on engine load and design)
  • Injector switching voltage: near battery voltage when ON (0–12 V switching to ground or MOSFET-driven path)
  • Injector activation frequency increases with engine speed; waveform should be consistent and repeatable
  • Current waveform for solenoid injectors shows a rapid rise then limited current; piezo injectors have different signatures — use OEM reference

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve freeze-frame and related DTCs. Confirm P2B06 is current and note conditions (engine temp, RPM, load).
  2. Visually inspect wiring/connector at cylinder 7 injector for damage, corrosion, pin push-out, or oil/water intrusion.
  3. With key on engine off, measure injector supply voltage and ground presence at connector. Compare to battery voltage.
  4. Measure injector coil resistance and compare to spec. If out of range, replace injector.
  5. Use a scan tool to command the injector while monitoring current or use an oscilloscope to capture waveform. Look for missing pulses, excessive rise time, or abnormal noise.
  6. Verify fuel rail pressure and flow. Repair fuel delivery issues if pressure is low or fluctuating.
  7. Swap suspected injector with another cylinder and clear codes. If code follows injector, replace injector.
  8. If code remains on original cylinder after swap, trace wiring back to ECM and check for opens/shorts/ground integrity. Repair any damaged harness or connector.
  9. If wiring checks good and new injector still shows performance error, suspect ECM driver fault. Confirm with bench/known-good ECM or manufacturer guidance before ECM replacement.
  10. If electrical and injector function are normal, perform compression or leak-down test to rule out mechanical causes affecting combustion and injector performance.
  11. After repairs, clear codes and perform a test drive/verification under the same conditions that set the code.

Likely causes

  • Injector internal electrical/mechanical failure (sticking, leaking, solenoid short/open)
  • Damaged harness or broken wire to injector pin
  • Connector contamination or poor ground/power feed
  • Weak or fluctuating fuel rail pressure (fuel pump, pressure regulator)
  • ECM driver channel intermittently failing

Fault status
