Causes

  • Faulty/failed door window motor or motor driver module
  • Open, short, or damaged wiring in the door harness (common at door hinge flex area)
  • Corroded, disconnected, or bent connector pins at the door module/motor or body control module (BCM)
  • Blown fuse or poor power/ground to the motor/module
  • CAN bus or LIN bus wiring fault, high resistance, or missing termination
  • Faulty BCM, door control module, or gateway module

Symptoms

  • Affected door window does not respond to switch or auto up/down commands
  • Intermittent window operation or operation only from certain switches
  • Network communication DTCs stored (U0222 and possibly other U-codes)
  • Possible other module messages or features disabled related to that door
  • No audible or abnormal noise from the motor when commanding the window

What to check

  • Read all stored codes with a capable scan tool and note freeze-frame and related U-codes
  • Check fuses and relays for power to door/window circuits
  • Visually inspect door hinge/jamb wiring, connectors and grommets for damage or corrosion
  • Wiggle test wiring while commanding window and watch live data/code creation
  • Check for CAN/LIN bus errors or bus-off conditions using a diagnostic tool
  • Measure supply voltage and ground at the motor/module connector with key on and during commands

Signal parameters

  • CAN bus idle common-mode ~2.5 V; dominant state: CAN_H ≈ 3.5 V, CAN_L ≈ 1.5 V (differential ≈ 2 V)
  • Motor supply voltage: approximately battery voltage (~12 V) when commanded
  • Motor current draw: typically several amps when moving (varies by vehicle), large spikes possible at start
  • Communication: periodic CAN messages from door module; absence or bus errors indicate comm fault
  • LIN-controlled actuators may use 12 V supply with LIN data line at 0–12 V pulse levels (vehicle specific)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner that can read Hyundai network messages. Record all U-codes and related modules.
  2. Clear codes and attempt to reproduce failure. Note when and how U0222 returns to help isolate intermittent faults.
  3. Verify power and ground: check relevant fuses and measure battery voltage at the motor/module power pin(s).
  4. Inspect wiring and connectors at the affected door (door jamb, harness grommet, motor connector) for damage, corrosion, or pin issues.
  5. Perform a wiggle test of the door harness while commanding the window; watch live data and note any change or code set.
  6. Check CAN/LIN bus integrity: measure CAN_H and CAN_L voltages at the door module connector with key on; look for normal idle and dominant states with scope.
  7. If communication is present but motor does not run, apply bench power or command motor supply (vehicle-specific safe procedure) and measure current to determine motor/driver health.
  8. If wiring and power are good but no communication to the motor driver/module, consider replacing or reflashing the door module or BCM per manufacturer procedures.
  9. After repair or component replacement, clear codes, verify operation and perform final road/functional test. Check for software updates/TSBs if repeated failures occur.

Likely causes

  • Damaged wiring in the door jamb (flex point) causing intermittent communication
  • Connector corrosion or pin backout at the door module or motor connector
  • Failed window motor internal controller (motor driver) that no longer responds to commands
  • Loss of power or ground to the motor/module (blown fuse, poor ground)
  • CAN/LIN network fault between door module and vehicle gateway/BCM
