What to check

  • Verify battery voltage is stable (good charge) during diagnostics and any previous reflash event
  • Check vehicle wiring and CAN/LIN bus integrity for shorts, opens, high resistance, or corrosion at connectors

Signal parameters

  • CAN message IDs and payloads related to clutch/engine disconnect (check for expected message frequency and content)
  • Module software/OS/calibration part numbers (e.g., SW version, Cal ID) from each affected ECU
  • Message counters, CRC/checksum fields and timestamps to identify corrupted packets
  • Bus voltages and differential voltages on CAN high/low during failure events
  • Battery voltage and transient dips during module programming or activation attempts

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a capable scan tool and record U034A plus any other stored codes and freeze frame data. Save module software and calibration IDs for ECM, clutch control module, and BCM.
  2. Check manufacturer service information/TSBs for U034A or required simultaneous software levels for related modules. Note any required reprogramming sequences.
