Causes

  • Open or shorted CAN/LIN wiring to Door Control Module G
  • Poor or missing power or ground at the DCM
  • Corroded, loose or damaged connector at the DCM or in-line connector
  • Failed Door Control Module G (hardware or internal fault)
  • Bus termination resistor missing or faulty, or excessive bus load
  • Software/firmware mismatch or corrupted module calibration

Symptoms

  • Door-related functions intermittent or not working (power locks, windows, mirror folding)
  • Warning or message on cluster indicating communications or module fault
  • Key fob lock/unlock may not operate reliably for that door
  • Interior lights, courtesy lights, or dome functions operating incorrectly
  • Other modules reporting related U-series communication DTCs
  • Possible no-response from that door’s switches or sensors

What to check

  • Read all stored and pending DTCs with a capable scan tool and record freeze-frame/live data
  • Check for related U-codes (lost communications with other modules)
  • Visually inspect DCM connector and harness for corrosion, bent pins, damage and water intrusion
  • Verify battery voltage at vehicle battery and at the DCM connector with accessory on (12V≈)
  • Check DCM ground integrity (measure voltage drop or inspect ground strap/bolt)
  • Measure CAN bus idle voltages at a known-good location and at the DCM connector (CANH/CANL)

Signal parameters

  • Typical CAN idle voltages: CANH ≈2.5 V, CANL ≈2.5 V (differential ≈0 V)
  • Dominant CAN state typically produces CANH ≈3.5 V and CANL ≈1.5 V (differential ≈2.0 V)
  • Typical total bus resistance with two 120 Ω terminators ≈60 Ω (ignition off measurement)
  • Message frequency: door modules send periodic status and event messages — losing or corrupted frames will show as missing or malformed messages on a capable bus monitor

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Record all DTCs and freeze-frame data; clear codes and attempt to re-create the fault while monitoring live data. 2) Verify whether the Door Control Module G appears on the network using a scope/scan tool: check if it transmits or is silent. 3) Measure battery voltage and check for proper power and ground at the DCM connector (with harness connected). Repair any low or intermittent power/ground. 4) Visually inspect and repair any damaged wiring or connectors at the door and along the harness (pay attention to hinge area). 5) With ignition on, measure CANH/CANL at the DCM connector and at another known-good CAN node; compare values and check for continuity and shorts to battery or ground. 6) Measure bus resistance (ignition off) to verify proper termination (~60 Ω). Replace missing or faulty terminators if out of range. 7) If wiring and bus look correct but the DCM is not responding or is sending invalid data, perform module reset/power-cycle and attempt a reflash or reprogram with factory software. 8) If invalid data persists after software reflash and wiring checks, replace the Door Control Module G and retest. 9) After repair, clear codes and verify proper operation and no recurrence during road test and with door cycling.

Likely causes

  • Loose or corroded connector at the door control module
  • Intermittent ground or battery feed to the DCM
  • Damaged CAN high/low pair in harness (pinch/chafe near door hinge)
  • Failed DCM electronics
  • Faulty termination or short on the CAN bus

Fault status
