Causes

  • Open or damaged communication ring (MOST optical fiber or ring bus)
  • Damaged connector, pin, or wiring between amplifier and head unit
  • Failed amplifier module
  • Failed head unit / MOZEN unit
  • Poor or missing power/ground to amplifier or head unit
  • Blown fuse or relay supplying audio modules

Symptoms

  • No audio or intermittent audio from speaker(s)
  • Loss of amplifier functions (volume control, equalizer)
  • Audio system displays errors or shows unit not present
  • Warning lamp or message for audio/module communication
  • Certain audio features (Bluetooth/Navigation prompts) not working

What to check

  • Scan network with OEM scan tool (GDS or equivalent) and read related module faults
  • Visually inspect connectors and harness between head unit/MOZEN and amplifier for damage
  • Check fuses and relays for audio/amplifier/head unit power
  • Verify power and ground at amplifier and head unit (battery voltage, solid ground)
  • Inspect optical fiber (if present) for kinks, breaks, or contamination; check for light if accessible
  • Check for aftermarket audio devices or splices in the ring/bus

Signal parameters

  • Ring continuity (ohms) between amplifier and head unit terminals
  • Optical link presence (light/active indicator) on MOST fiber connectors if accessible
  • CAN/LIN bus voltages (CAN_H ~2.5V idle, CAN_L ~2.5V; differential ~0V idle) where applicable
  • Module supply voltage at amplifier/head unit (12V nominal, key-on/run)
  • Ground resistance to chassis (
  • Bus error/frame loss counts and module ‘link status’ from OEM tool

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve all U-codes and related audio module codes with OEM scan tool; record freeze frame if available.
  2. Clear codes and attempt to reproduce. Note whether code returns and under what conditions.
  3. Visually inspect connectors, harness, and routing between the head unit/MOZEN module and amplifier for damage, corrosion or aftermarket splices; repair as needed.
  4. Verify power and ground at both amplifier and head unit: measure battery voltage with ignition on and check ground continuity to chassis.
  5. Inspect/restore fuses and relays for audio/amplifier circuits. Replace any blown fuses and retest.
  6. For systems using an optical ring (MOST): inspect fiber for kinks, contamination, or breaks; if connectors include an LED/light port check for optical signal. Replace damaged fiber or ferrules.
  7. Measure continuity/resistance around the ring/bus wiring where accessible. Look for opens or high resistance sections and repair wiring/connectors.
  8. Use OEM tool to check module presence on bus and link status. If one module does not appear, try reseating its connectors; swap with a known good module if available to isolate defective unit.
  9. Remove or disconnect aftermarket audio devices and retest the ring/bus.
  10. If wiring and power/ground are good and fault persists, consider updating module firmware or performing module reprogramming/replacement per OEM procedures.
  11. After repair, clear codes and perform full functional test of audio system; confirm no return of U1443 under normal operation.

Likely causes

  • Broken/chewed/crimped optical fiber or ring conductor
  • Loose, corroded or pushed-out connector pins at amplifier/head unit
  • Amplifier internal failure (no link response)
  • Head unit firmware fault or locked BUS interface
  • Missing termination or BUS short caused by aftermarket equipment

Fault status

⚠️ Status
