Causes

Diagnostic algorithm

  2. Visually inspect amplifier area, connector seals, and front speaker locations for water, corrosion, pin damage, or aftermarket splices.
  3. Check related fuses and fusible links; replace if blown and monitor whether fuse re-blows (indicates short).
  4. With ignition OFF and battery disconnected if required for safety, disconnect front LH and RH speaker connectors at amplifier.
  5. Measure resistance between LH and RH output pins on the amplifier harness. A low resistance indicates a short between channels or a shorted speaker.
  6. Measure speaker impedance at each front speaker with speaker disconnected from amplifier. Compare to manufacturer nominal. A near-zero reading indicates a shorted speaker.
  7. Reconnect one speaker at a time and check if the code returns or audio function changes to isolate which side causes the fault.
  8. Inspect and wiggle-test harnesses through door boots and routing paths to find intermittent shorts; repair any damaged wiring and connectors.
  9. If wiring and speakers are good, bench-test or swap the amplifier with a known-good unit (or substitute known-good amplifier harness) to verify internal amplifier fault.
  10. After repair or component replacement, clear codes, perform functional test at varied volume levels, and verify no reoccurrence. If intermittent or communication errors persist, check for software updates or module reprogramming per manufacturer procedures.
  11. If diagnosis is inconclusive, escalate to manufacturer technical service with detailed test data (resistances, waveforms, reproduction steps).
