Page language: EN

Causes

  • Intermittent or low supply voltage to the Eavb module (battery, precharge, auxiliary supply)
  • Faulty or loose power/ground connections or corroded connectors at the module
  • CAN/LIN/bus communication errors, high bus error rate or missing messages
  • Software/firmware mismatch, recent update or ECU reflash that introduced timing issues
  • High CPU/memory load on ADSP causing buffer underruns or scheduling delays
  • Faulty Eavb module (internal electronics, watchdog, buffer) or failing sensors/actuators it controls

Symptoms

  • Warning message or amber warning light in the instrument cluster referencing ADSP/Eavb
  • Degraded or loss of function for the circuit(s) controlled by the Eavb (may be subsystems such as valves, actuators or HVAC functions)
  • Intermittent operation that may return after vehicle power cycle
  • Reduced vehicle functionality or limp/limited mode for related systems
  • Stored event data and increased bus error counters in vehicle diagnostic logs

What to check

  • Read Tesla diagnostic logs with factory or approved scan tool; capture full event timestamp and freeze frame data
  • Check vehicle 12 V and high-voltage auxiliary supply voltages at rest and during fault occurrence
  • Inspect Eavb module connector and harness for corrosion, bent pins, water ingress, or mechanical damage
  • Check fuses, fusible links and power distribution for the Eavb circuit
  • Monitor CAN/LIN bus health and error counters while attempting to reproduce the fault
  • Confirm current software/firmware levels of ADSP and Eavb and check for known bulletins or recent updates

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage to Eavb: nominal 9–16 V (monitor for drops below threshold during events)
  • CAN message frequency: expected periodicity for Eavb messages (watch for missing frames or increased interval)
  • Message timeout threshold: module declares underrun if no valid data within configured timeout (vehicle-specific)
  • Bus error rate: CRC/frame error counts per minute (elevated indicates communication issues)
  • Module supply ripple/noise: excessive noise can cause buffer underruns or resets
  • CPU load/memory usage on ADSP (if available) showing spikes or saturation prior to event

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve full diagnostic code list and event/freeze frame data using Tesla diagnostic tool. Do NOT clear codes before initial analysis.
  2. Note conditions when fault set (ignition state, vehicle speed, recent software update, temperature, charging state). Attempt to reproduce under similar conditions.
  3. Visually inspect Eavb connector and harness for damage, corrosion, moisture, or loose pins. Repair any physical connector issues.
  4. Measure supply voltage and ground resistance at the Eavb connector with fault present and during reproduction. Compare to specified thresholds.
  5. Monitor CAN/LIN traffic with a bus analyzer while reproducing the issue. Look for missing messages, excessive retransmissions, or error frames tied to the event timestamp.
  6. Check fuses and power distribution for intermittent connections; wiggle test harness and connectors while watching live data for dropouts.
  7. Confirm ADSP and Eavb firmware/software versions; if a recent update preceded the fault, check manufacturer bulletins and consider re-flash or rollback per OEM guidance.
  8. If power/communication checks are good, attempt module isolation: disconnect downstream loads or substitute a known-good harness/module if available to determine whether the fault follows the module or the wiring/host.
  9. If a hardware failure is confirmed, replace the Eavb module and perform post-repair verification: clear codes, reproduce previous test conditions, and verify no recurrence.
  10. If unable to resolve, escalate to OEM service center with detailed logs, waveform captures, and step-by-step checks performed.

Likely causes

  • Intermittent supply voltage or ground fault at the Eavb connector
  • CAN bus message timeout or dropped frames between ADSP and Eavb
  • Firmware/software timing issue after a vehicle update
  • Failed Eavb hardware due to internal electronics or power stage fault

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Eavb Underrun — Eavb module has detected a data or power underrun (missing or late messages or insufficient supply). System may be degraded; inspect power, grounds, communications, and module health.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5-2.5 hours
