B0109
LIDAR Washer Actuator D
Causes
- Open or shorted wiring to LIDAR washer actuator D
- Corroded, loose, or damaged connector at the actuator
- Failed LIDAR washer actuator motor or solenoid
- Blown fuse or faulty relay in the washer circuit
- Control module output fault (body control module / BCM)
- Mechanical jam or seized actuator/nozzle
Symptoms
- LIDAR washer D will not spray when commanded
- No audible actuator noise from the affected nozzle during wash cycles
- Warning message or diagnostic lamp related to LIDAR washer or sensor cleaning
- Intermittent operation or only works after wiggling harness or connector
What to check
- Read and record stored DTCs and freeze frame data with a scan tool
- Inspect fuse(s) and relay(s) for the washer system
- Visual inspection of connector and wiring to LIDAR washer actuator D for corrosion, damage, pin intrusion, or water
- Check for water or debris blocking the nozzle or mechanically binding the actuator
- Use a scan tool to command the washer actuator D and observe response
- Measure voltage and ground at the actuator connector while commanding the actuator
Signal parameters
- Command voltage from BCM/washer module: typically ~0 to supply voltage (12 V) when actuated; may be switched positive or ground depending on design
- Idle (no command) voltage: open circuit or battery voltage depending on driver type
- Actuator coil resistance: expected range depends on actuator (typical solenoids 5–50 ohms); consult vehicle spec
- Ground continuity:
Diagnostic algorithm
- Connect a scan tool and confirm B0109 and any related codes; record freeze-frame data
- Turn ignition ON (engine off). Inspect fuses and relays for wash system; replace if blown and retest
- Visually inspect the actuator D connector and wiring for corrosion, bent pins, chafing, or water. Repair or protect as necessary
- Command the LIDAR washer D from the scan tool and listen/observe. If no operation, backprobe the actuator connector: measure voltage on the command pin while commanding. Note voltage and polarity
- If proper command voltage is present but actuator does not operate, disconnect actuator and bench-test by applying vehicle battery voltage (observe polarity). If actuator does not operate when powered, replace actuator
- If actuator runs on bench test, check harness continuity and for intermittent open/short between actuator and module; repair broken wires or poor connections
- If no command voltage at connector when actuator is connected and switch/scan tool commanded, test BCM/washer module output and ground; check related relays and power feeds. Repair or replace module only after other causes eliminated
- After repair, clear codes, perform multiple wash cycles and scan to ensure B0109 does not return
Likely causes
- Connector corrosion or poor contact at actuator
- Actuator motor or solenoid failure
- Open or short in harness to the actuator
- Blown fuse or bad relay feeding the washer circuit
