Camera Washer Actuator F

Causes

  • Open or shorted wiring to the actuator (power or ground)
  • Failed camera washer actuator motor or internal switch
  • Poor connector contact or corrosion at actuator connector
  • Blown fuse or faulty relay in the washer/actuator circuit
  • Faulty body control module (BCM) or camera module driver circuit
  • Mechanical jam or obstruction of the actuator/nozzle

Symptoms

  • Camera washer for position F does not operate when activated
  • Nozzle does not spray or actuator does not move
  • Warning message or camera obscured notification on dash/infotainment
  • Intermittent operation or only audible clicking without fluid flow
  • Related DTCs for other washer actuators or communication faults

What to check

  • Perform a visual inspection of the actuator, connector, wiring harness and washer lines for damage or contamination
  • Verify washer fluid level and check for clogged nozzles or frozen lines (cold climates)
  • Check relevant fuses and relays for the washer/actuator circuit
  • Use a scan tool to read current freeze frame and pending/confirmed codes and to command the actuator on/off
  • Back-probe the actuator connector while commanding the actuator to verify presence of supply voltage and/or switching ground
  • Measure actuator coil/motor resistance with connector disconnected (compare to service spec if available)

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage: should be near battery voltage (approx. 11–14 V) at the actuator power pin when commanded ON
  • Control: actuator may be driven by switched battery positive or a switched ground from BCM — back-probe while commanding to identify type
  • Idle voltage: with system OFF, expect no supply on switched circuit (or battery voltage on constant feed if present)
  • Current draw: typical small washer actuator motors draw under a few amps during normal operation; a stalled motor will draw significantly more
  • Resistance: actuator coil/motor resistance typically low (ohms). Compare measured value to manufacturer specification where available

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve and record all related DTCs and attempt to replicate the symptom by commanding the camera washer with a scan tool.
  2. Confirm washer fluid level and inspect nozzle/hose for blockages or freezing. Clear any obstruction and retest.
  3. Visually inspect actuator and connector for corrosion, bent pins or water intrusion. Repair or replace damaged connectors.
  4. Check fuses/relays for the washer circuit; replace any blown fuses and retest. Verify relay operation if present.
  5. Back-probe actuator connector while commanding the function: verify correct supply voltage and switching signal (or ground) at the appropriate time.
  6. With connector disconnected, measure actuator motor/coil resistance. If open or shorted out of spec, replace actuator.
  7. Check wiring continuity between the actuator connector and the controlling module (BCM/camera module). Repair any open/shorted wiring.
  8. If wiring and actuator are good but no command signal is present, verify BCM/camera module outputs, grounds, and any communication lines. Check for related comms DTCs.
  9. If actuator operates when bench-tested directly to battery but not when connected in vehicle, focus on vehicle wiring/driver circuit. If actuator fails bench test, replace it.
  10. After repairs, clear DTCs and perform functional test and a road/operation check to confirm the fault is resolved.

Likely causes

  • Connector corrosion or loose pin at actuator
  • Actuator motor failure (no movement when commanded)
  • Power supply fuse or relay open for the washer circuit
  • Command/ground driver on BCM or camera module failed
  • Blockage in washer hose or nozzle preventing flow
