Causes

What to check

  • Read and record all stored codes and freeze frame data with a capable scan tool
  • Check for related codes on seat heater module, BCM, and CAN bus
  • Visually inspect the right rear seat heater switch, bezel and connectors for damage or moisture
  • Verify fuses and relays for seat heaters and accessory supplies
  • Back-probe switch connector: check for battery supply, ground and switch output while operating
  • Wiggle test wiring harness while observing scan tool live data or switch LED response

Signal parameters

  • Battery supply voltage present at switch (approx. 12 V) with ignition on
  • Ground continuity to chassis ground from switch housing when required
  • Switch output toggles between supply or ground (or sends CAN/logic signal) when actuated
  • Continuity/low resistance through switch circuit when switch is ON; open when OFF
  • Seat heater element resistance within manufacturer specification (check service manual)
  • CAN or LIN messages for seat heater switch present and valid on data bus (if applicable)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scan tool. Record B1055 and any related codes. Check live data/messages for the right rear seat heater switch status while operating the switch.
  2. Visually inspect switch, connectors and wiring at the right rear seat. Look for corrosion, bent pins, water ingress, or physical damage.
  3. Check fuse(s) related to seat heaters and accessory circuits. Replace any blown fuses and retest.
  4. With ignition on, back-probe the switch connector. Verify battery supply, ground reference and that the switch output changes state when pressed. Compare voltages to expected values.
  5. Perform a wiggle test of the harness from the switch to the seat module/BCM while monitoring live data or switch LED to locate intermittent faults.
  6. If switch wiring appears open/shorted, disconnect battery and inspect continuity of wires from switch to the seat module/BCM. Repair any damaged wiring or connectors.
  7. If switch input signals are correct but heater still fails or faults remain, test the seat heater element and seat module per service manual procedures and resistance specifications.
  8. If all wiring, switch and seat module check good and communication is verified, consider BCM or seat module software update or replacement as a last step. Clear codes and verify repair under various operating conditions.
  9. Reassemble, ensure connectors are sealed, and road-test. Confirm no recurrence of the code.
