Causes

What to check

  • Check that seat is correctly seated on rails and connectors to seat module are engaged
  • Measure squib/inflator continuity and resistance at the seat connector with ignition off (see signal params)
  • Verify supply and ground voltages to the seat module and continuity to the SRS control module
  • Inspect for evidence of previous deployment (cut wires, replaced parts) and correct repairs

Signal parameters

  • Battery voltage to seat SRS circuits: ~11–14 V with ignition ON (manufacturer-specific)
  • Typical intact squib/inflator resistance: low ohms (commonly ~1–5 Ω) — consult OEM spec
  • Open circuit (OL) indicates broken wire or disconnected inflator; near 0 Ω indicates short
  • CAN/diagnostic communication: seat module should report status codes and inflator circuit state
  • Live data: seat module status flag for inflatable circuit (OK / FAULT) if supported

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Read and record B105E and any other SRS codes and freeze frame data with a calibrated scan tool.
  2. Do a visual inspection: remove trim as required and inspect seat harnesses, fasteners and connectors for damage, corrosion or water.
  3. With ignition OFF and battery disconnected per manufacturer safety procedure, unplug the seat connector and inspect pins; repair any damaged pins or terminals.
  4. Measure resistance of the seat inflator/squib between the inflator pins at the connector. Compare to OEM specification (an open or short is a fault).
  5. Check continuity and insulation between inflator wires and vehicle ground/supply to identify shorts to chassis or battery.
  6. Reconnect and restore battery; use a diagnostic tool to command SRS self-tests and monitor live data while exercising seat position if required.
  7. If wiring and connector repairs correct the fault, clear codes and confirm they do not return after cycling ignition and road test.
  8. If fault persists and wiring/connector and inflator test within spec, consider replacing the seat module or the seat inflator assembly and perform required SRS module coding/initialization per OEM procedure.
  9. After any repair, perform a full SRS system check and ensure the airbag warning lamp extinguishes and no new codes are stored.
