Causes

  • Measure LIN line voltage at the busbar connector with key ON: idle and during bus activity
  • Scan for other network codes (U-codes) that can help isolate the segment

Signal parameters

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scan tool. Read and record all DTCs and network status. Note when the fault set (conditions).
  2. Verify vehicle battery voltage and charging system health. If voltage is low or fluctuating, restore to proper levels before further testing.
  3. Visually inspect the busbar LIN A connector(s) and adjacent harness for corrosion, bent pins, damaged insulation, or evidence of water ingress. Repair as necessary.
  4. With key ON (engine off), measure LIN line voltage at the suspect connector: expect battery voltage idle and pulsed low during activity. If line is stuck low or high, isolate by disconnecting modules one at a time to find the offending device or short.
  5. Use an oscilloscope to verify LIN waveform quality during communication. Look for missing frames, noise, excessive reflections, or flat/stuck line.
  6. Check continuity between modules and the busbar for opens or shorts to ground/battery. Repair damaged wiring or splices.
  7. Inspect and test the pull-up resistor/termination at the bus master location per manufacturer data. Replace if missing or out of spec.
  8. If wiring and connectors are good, suspect a faulty module transceiver. Isolate by disconnecting suspected modules and retest. Replace module only after confirming it is the cause.
  9. After repairs, clear codes and perform functional tests and a road/operation test to confirm the fault does not return.
  10. If intermittent faults persist, protect and secure harness routing, replace corroded connectors, and consider using dielectric grease or service-specific repair kits.
