Causes

  • Check related fuses and power/ground supplies to the door circuit and BCM
  • Confirm if problem is isolated to switch by testing other door switches and observing locking behavior

Signal parameters

  • Switch resting signal: typically a defined high or low logic voltage depending on model (0 V = low / ~5–12 V = high). Value varies by vehicle; confirm with service data
  • When pressed the switch should toggle the input between two defined states without chatter
  • Closed switch resistance: near 0 ohms (very low) between contact and ground/reference when activated; open circuit should read very high resistance
  • Intermittent or noisy signal on live data indicates wiring/connector issue or failing switch

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Use a scan tool to confirm B10D3 is current or stored and note any freeze-frame data. Clear codes and attempt to reproduce to verify repeatability.
  2. Visually inspect right front door lock switch, bezel and connector for damage, moisture, or foreign objects. Inspect door harness through the door jamb/bellow for broken wires.
  3. With ignition on, back-probe the switch connector and observe live data while operating the switch. Verify the signal changes cleanly between defined states. Note voltage levels.
  4. If the signal is absent or incorrect, measure voltage at the switch power/reference pin and ground. If no reference or power, trace back to fuse/BCM.
  5. Test switch continuity with multimeter (disconnect connector): expected closed circuit when button pressed, open when released. Replace switch if readings are out of specification or intermittent.
  6. Wiggle test wiring harness and connector while monitoring live data or multimeter for intermittent changes. Repair damaged wires or replace harness sections as needed (pay attention to hinge area).
  7. Clean and reseat connector terminals if corroded; apply dielectric grease per manufacturer guidance. Re-test operation and clear codes.
  8. If wiring and switch test good but code persists, check for related BCM/door module faults and reprogram/flash per dealer procedure if software updates are available. Replace module only after confirming input circuit integrity.
  9. After repair, clear codes and verify proper operation of the right front door lock button over multiple cycles and road-test if necessary.
