Causes

  • Electrical fault in the actuator circuit (open/short/intermittent).
  • Failed or seized door lock motor/actuator.
  • Corroded or poor connector/wiring (often at door hinge flex area).
  • Blown fuse or failed relay feeding the actuator.
  • Mechanical binding of latch/linkage preventing actuator movement.
  • Faulty door module or body control module software/hardware.

Symptoms

  • Driver door will not lock or unlock with remote/key/central command.
  • Driver-door lock operates intermittently or only after multiple attempts.
  • Loud grinding, clicking or no sound from driver-door area during lock/unlock.
  • Other doors lock/unlock normally while driver door fails.
  • DTC B1108 present and may be accompanied by other body/door module codes.
  • Possible parasitic battery drain if actuator is stuck energized.

What to check

  • Scan vehicle for stored codes in body/door modules and note freeze/frame data.
  • Visually inspect fuses and relays related to central locking; replace if faulty.
  • Inspect driver-door wiring harness through door jamb for chafing, broken wires or corrosion.
  • Disconnect actuator connector and inspect pins for corrosion, damage or water.
  • Listen for motor noise while commanding lock/unlock; compare with passenger side.
  • Check operation of latch/linkages mechanically to ensure no binding.

Signal parameters

  • Battery supply voltage to actuator: ~11–14 V (when command present).
  • Motor coil resistance: typically low (a few ohms) — manufacturer-specific (expect continuity).
  • Actuator current draw during movement: intermittent peak typically 0.5–5 A (overload indicates mechanical/electrical fault).
  • Control signal: switched 12 V or ground output from door/body module or PWM; verify command present with a scope/multimeter during operation.
  • Communication: door module should show normal CAN/LIN activity when commanding locks; loss of comms may prevent actuation.

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve all related DTCs from body and door modules; record occurrence and freeze data.
  2. Verify correct power and ground at the actuator connector while cycling lock/unlock (use a second technician to command remote).
  3. If no supply, check related fuses, relays and wiring back to the door module; repair as required.
  4. If supply is present but actuator does not move, measure actuator coil resistance and current draw during command. High resistance/open = replace actuator; excessive current = mechanical bind or shorted motor.
  5. Inspect connector pins and wiring at the door hinge/boot for breaks or corrosion; wiggle test while commanding lock to find intermittent faults.
  6. Remove actuator and bench-test with direct 12 V (observe movement, noise and current draw). Replace if faulty.
  7. Check latch and linkage for mechanical interference; lubricate or repair as needed.
  8. If actuator and wiring OK, check door module outputs and reflash/update module software if TSBs apply. Replace module only after ruling out wiring/actuator.
  9. Clear codes, retest multiple cycles and road test; re-scan for return codes and verify normal operation.

Likely causes

  • Failed driver-door locking actuator (most common).
  • Damaged wiring harness at door jamb (pinch point).
  • Corroded connector pins at the actuator or door module.
  • Motor draws excessive current due to worn gears or seized mechanism.
  • Intermittent CAN/LIN communication error preventing proper actuator command.
  • Blown interior fuse or a failed central locking relay.

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Central locking motor (driver door) — actuator/circuit fault detected; driver-door lock may not operate correctly.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5-2 hours
