Signal parameters

  • Idle/open state: open circuit (high), Actuated state: closed circuit (low resistance)
  • Supply: 12 V feed present at switch feed circuit with ignition/accessory on (verify with wiring diagram)

  • Resistance when closed: low (near 0 Ω) between signal and ground or between signal and supply depending on switch design — verify on vehicle

Diagnostic algorithm

  2. Attempt to operate passenger unlock switch while monitoring the BCM input parameter or using an oscilloscope/multimeter to observe the signal changing
  3. Perform visual inspection of the switch, connector, and door harness (door jamb flex section) for damage, corrosion, or water ingress
  4. Back-probe the switch connector: verify presence of feed voltage, good ground, and that the signal toggles when the switch is pressed
  5. If signal does not change at the switch, trace continuity to the BCM connector; repair any open/shorted wiring or corrosion
  6. If signal is correct at the switch but BCM does not see change, check connector pins at BCM for damage and verify good ground and reference voltages to the BCM
  7. If wiring and switch test good, perform module communication checks; reprogram or replace BCM only after confirming input circuit is good and consulting manufacturer procedures
  8. After repairs clear codes and retest full function including repeated door opening/closing cycles to ensure reliability
