Causes

  • Failed or low‑battery TPMS sensor (sensor end‑of‑life)
  • Damaged TPMS sensor (corrosion, impact, valve stem damage)
  • Missing or incorrectly programmed sensor ID after wheel or sensor replacement
  • TPMS receiver/antenna module fault or poor RF reception
  • Power, ground or wiring fault at the TPMS module
  • CAN bus or module communication error (intermittent or permanent)

Symptoms

  • TPMS warning lamp illuminated or flashing
  • One or more tires show blank or incorrect pressure on the instrument cluster
  • TPMS warnings appear intermittently or only after startup
  • Unable to perform TPMS sensor learn/registration
  • Instrument cluster displays 'TPMS Fault' or similar message

What to check

  • Read all stored DTCs and freeze frame data with a Land Rover‑capable scan tool
  • Use a TPMS diagnostic tool to read IDs, pressures, temperatures and battery voltages from each sensor
  • Visually inspect each valve/sensor for damage, valve core corrosion or sealing issues
  • Verify tire pressures are within specification and no slow leaks are present
  • Check power and ground at the TPMS receiver/module and inspect connectors for corrosion or water ingress
  • Scan the vehicle network for related communication DTCs (U0xxx, U1xxx) and check CAN bus integrity

Signal parameters

  • TPMS sensor RF frequency: 315 MHz or 433 MHz depending on market
  • Sensor battery voltage (typical new ~2.7–3.0 V; replace if below manufacturer threshold)
  • Sensor transmitted pressure (psi/bar) and temperature values
  • Sensor ID (unique 8–16 digit identifier) reported to the TPMS receiver
  • RF signal strength / RSSI as reported by diagnostic tool
  • CAN/vehicle bus messages carrying TPMS data (availability and update rate)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a Land Rover‑capable diagnostic scan tool. Read and record B1182 and any related codes; capture freeze frame and live data.
  2. Inspect tires and valves for obvious damage and verify static tire pressures. Repair any mechanical tire/valve issues and retest.
  3. Use a TPMS activator/scanner at each wheel to confirm the sensor responds, report ID, pressure and battery voltage. Note any sensors that fail to respond or show low battery.
  4. If one or more sensors are unresponsive or show low battery voltage, remove and replace the faulty sensor(s) with correct OEM or compatible units, then perform sensor learn/programming per Land Rover procedure.
  5. If sensors appear OK, inspect wiring, power and ground to the TPMS receiver/module. Repair any corroded connectors or damaged wiring.
  6. Check for CAN/communication faults. Repair any network issues; if there are comms errors to the instrument cluster or BCM, resolve those first then recheck TPMS.
  7. If the receiver/module is suspected faulty (no RF receptions, correct power/ground but no sensor data), replace the module and program as required.
  8. After repairs, clear codes and perform TPMS relearn procedure. Confirm sensors are registered and perform a road/test drive to ensure the warning lamp remains off and data updates correctly.
  9. If problem persists and all hardware checks OK, verify vehicle software level and apply any manufacturer technical service bulletins or reflash required modules.

Likely causes

  • One or more sensors have dead batteries or failed electronics (most common)
  • Sensor IDs not learned to the vehicle after tire service
  • Connector corrosion or open/short to TPMS receiver
  • Faulty TPMS control module or antenna unit
  • Intermittent CAN wiring fault between TPMS module and instrument cluster
