Causes

  • Faulty/leaking or stuck leisure mode button/switch
  • Open or short in button wiring or connector
  • Corroded or loose connector pins at the switch or BCM
  • Blown fuse supplying the button circuit or illumination
  • Faulty Body Control Module (BCM) or related control unit
  • Software or configuration error in vehicle network

Symptoms

  • Leisure mode does not activate when button is pressed
  • Button illumination inoperative or intermittent
  • Instrument cluster or message centre shows an error or warning
  • Intermittent or no response from the leisure function
  • Related functions controlled by the same switch cluster behave erratically

What to check

  • Read all stored and pending diagnostic trouble codes and freeze frame data with a suitable diagnostic tool
  • Perform visual inspection of the switch, surrounding trim and wiring for damage or water ingress
  • Check relevant fuses and replace if blown
  • Operate the switch while monitoring input at the connector for continuity or voltage change
  • Inspect and gently wiggle the harness and connectors while observing for intermittent changes
  • Check for related CAN/BUS communication faults that may affect the BCM

Signal parameters

  • Switch input: expected change between reference voltage and ground when pressed (vehicle dependent; typically a switched ground or 5 V reference input)
  • Switch illumination: 12 V supply or PWM dimming signal (check for presence)
  • Diagnostic data: corresponding button press message visible on body module input channel via diagnostic tool
  • Resistance: closed switch should show near 0 Ω between contacts; open switch OL/infinite

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Use a diagnostic scanner to confirm B11AA and read any related B‑codes or body module events.
  2. Check and record the state of relevant fuses; replace if necessary and re-check the code.
  3. Visually inspect the switch assembly and surrounding area for physical damage or moisture.
  4. Remove the switch trim/panel to access the switch connector. With ignition on, backprobe the switch connector and verify signal behaviour while pressing the button (measure voltage or continuity as per vehicle wiring).
  5. If the switch signal is absent or incorrect, disconnect the switch and measure resistance across its terminals to verify proper open/closed values. Replace the switch if out of specification.
  6. If the switch tests good, inspect wiring for continuity between the switch connector and the BCM input pin. Repair any open/shorts or damaged insulation.
  7. Check connector pins for corrosion or poor contact; clean and repair as required.
  8. If wiring and switch are good, use the diagnostic tool to monitor the BCM input and CAN data while operating the switch. If the BCM does not register the input, consider BCM internal fault.
  9. Reprogram or update BCM software if a known software fault exists (consult technical service bulletins).
  10. After repair, clear codes and verify proper operation over a short road/test cycle. Re-scan to confirm B11AA does not return.

Likely causes

  • Switch contacts or internal mechanism failed (most common)
  • Wiring harness damaged (chafing, water ingress)
  • Connector contamination or poor mating
  • Related fuse blown
  • BCM input circuit degraded or failed

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Leisure button circuit fault – input missing or implausible to the body control module.
