Causes

  • Verify relevant fuses and relays for the circuit
  • Operate the button while monitoring live data to see if a switch input changes state
  • Backprobe the switch connector and check reference voltage and ground with a multimeter

Signal parameters

  • Switch input: typically a digital input (open/closed) seen as a change between reference voltage and ground when pressed
  • Reference voltage: commonly 5V (model-dependent) at switch feed — verify with vehicle wiring diagram
  • Switch continuity: closed circuit when button pressed (or open depending on circuit design) — confirm with multimeter/ohmmeter
  • CAN/bus: Leisure state may be reported as a CAN message; verify message receipt and correct value in live data

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect an OEM-level scan tool and read all DTCs, module status and freeze frame data; note occurrence frequency and related codes
  2. Attempt to reproduce the fault by operating the Leisure button while watching live data for the switch input or related CAN message
  3. Perform visual inspection of the button assembly and connector; look for contamination, water, or physical damage
  4. With ignition on, backprobe the switch connector: verify reference supply voltage, ground continuity, and that the switch changes state when pressed
  5. If reference voltages are missing, trace back to fuse/relay and check/replace as required
  6. If voltages are correct at the switch but the BCM does not see a change, perform continuity testing on wiring between switch and BCM and check connector pins for damage
  7. Wiggle test the harness while operating the button to identify intermittent faults
  8. If wiring and switch test good, check BCM inputs; consult wiring diagram to identify pin and test or substitute known-good module if possible (follow manufacturer procedures)
  9. Check for software updates or Technical Service Bulletins affecting Leisure function and reprogram modules if advised
  10. Clear codes and retest operations over a drive cycle to confirm repair; document if intermittent or reoccurs
