Causes

  • Defective passenger-side rear seat switch assembly
  • Poor or corroded connector or pin(s) at the switch
  • Broken, chafed, or shorted wiring in the harness to the switch
  • Faulty seat control module or body control module (intermittent communication)
  • Water ingress or contamination in the switch or connector
  • Recent repair or reassembly left connector loose or pinched

Symptoms

  • Passenger rear seat functions assigned to the switch (adjust, fold, heater or others) do not operate or operate intermittently
  • No response when pressing the passenger rear seat switch
  • Related warning or message in the vehicle info display (if applicable)
  • Possible stored DTCs for related seat circuits or communication errors

What to check

  • Read full DTC list and freeze frame with a diagnostic scan tool; note related codes
  • Attempt to reproduce fault and observe when it occurs (key on/engine running, after movement, after moisture exposure)
  • Visually inspect switch and exposed wiring for damage, contamination, or loose connectors
  • Backprobe the switch connector with the ignition on and operate the switch while watching live data/messages
  • Check for continuity between switch terminals and the seat control module where wiring is accessible
  • Check for proper reference voltage (usually ~5 V) and ground at the switch connector

Signal parameters

  • Reference voltage to switch: ~5 V (verify exact value in OEM data)
  • Switch output: logic low/high or closure to ground when pressed (check OEM expected states)
  • Continuity/ohms when switch actuated: near 0 Ω across relevant contacts, open when released
  • Expected CAN/communications messages from seat module present on scan tool (if the switch state is sent over network)
  • No unintended short to battery voltage or chassis ground

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Use a scan tool to read code B1333 and any related codes; record freeze-frame and live data.
  2. Try to reproduce the fault; note exact operator actions and conditions when it occurs.
  3. Visually inspect the passenger rear seat switch, its connector, and the harness for damage, water ingress or contamination.
  4. With ignition on, backprobe the switch connector. Verify reference voltage, ground, and signal change when actuating the switch (compare to OEM expected values).
  5. If no voltage or ground, trace wiring to the next connector or to the seat/body control module and check continuity and resistance.
  6. Wiggle the wiring and connectors while watching live data to identify intermittent opens/shorts.
  7. If wiring and connector are good and signals are within specification, verify that the seat control module is receiving the switch signal (scan tool data or module inputs).
  8. If the module does not see the input but wiring is good, consider module fault or reflash/programmable module operation per manufacturer procedure.
  9. If the switch fails electrical tests, replace the passenger rear seat switch assembly and retest.
  10. Clear codes, verify repair by repeating the original reproduction steps, and confirm the DTC does not return.

Likely causes

  • Intermittent/open circuit in switch connector or harness to seat module
  • Failed/dirty switch contacts inside the switch assembly
  • Connector corrosion at the switch or seat module
  • Seat module not receiving or not recognising switch input (module fault)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Electrical fault detected in the passenger-side rear seat switch assembly circuit — possible open/short/intermittent or communication error between the switch and the seat/body control module.
