Causes

  • Blown fuse or faulty circuit breaker
  • Open or shorted wiring between BCM and lamp
  • Corroded, loose or damaged lamp connector or socket
  • Failed DRL/position lamp or LED module
  • Poor ground or chassis connection at lamp circuit
  • BCM output or internal driver fault

Symptoms

  • Right daytime running light and/or position light does not illuminate
  • Intermittent operation or flicker of the right front lamp
  • Instrument cluster message or lamp-out warning
  • DTC B13D1 stored in BCM or vehicle fault memory
  • Other exterior lights operate normally (isolated to right DRL/position lamp)

What to check

  • Read and record DTCs and freeze-frame data using a capable scan tool; note whether code is current or historic
  • Visual inspection of right front lamp assembly, lens, connector and wiring for damage, corrosion or water ingress
  • Check fuses/circuit breakers related to exterior lighting and specifically DRL/position circuit
  • With ignition ON and lamp commanded ON via diagnostic tool, verify presence of supply voltage at the lamp connector
  • Check continuity and resistance of power and ground conductors between the lamp connector and the BCM
  • Perform wiggle test on harness while commanding lamp ON to detect intermittent connector/wiring faults

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage at lamp connector: approximately battery voltage when commanded ON (~11–14.5 V)
  • No-load lamp current: dependent on lamp type; LED modules typically draw a low current (example range ~0.1–2 A) — compare to manufacturer spec
  • Expected continuity: low resistance between lamp ground and chassis (
  • BCM control: output should switch to battery or ground (vehicle dependent) when lamp is commanded ON — confirm with scan tool

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scan tool, read and record DTCs, clear codes and see if B13D1 returns.
  2. Perform visual inspection of right front lamp, connector and harness for obvious damage, corrosion or water entry. Repair as required.
  3. Check related fuses/circuit breakers; replace if blown and test, but don’t assume fuse replacement fixes underlying short.
  4. Using a multimeter, with ignition ON and lamp commanded ON via scan tool, measure voltage at the lamp connector power pin. If no voltage, backprobe harness toward BCM to find where supply is lost.
  5. Measure continuity between lamp ground pin and chassis ground. Repair any high-resistance or open ground.
  6. If voltage present at connector but lamp not lighting, disconnect lamp and measure lamp module supply/return and current draw. If lamp draws no/abnormal current, suspect lamp module failure and replace or bench-test the lamp.
  7. If lamp module works when directly powered, perform wiring continuity and short-to-ground/short-to-battery tests between connector and BCM. Repair damaged wiring or connector.
  8. If wiring and lamp check good, use scope or scan tool to test BCM output driver behavior while commanding lamp ON. If BCM output is erratic or absent, consider BCM fault, software update, or replacement following manufacturer procedure.
  9. After repairs, clear codes, cycle ignition, command lamp ON/OFF and road-test to confirm repair. Re-scan to ensure code does not return.

Likely causes

  • Corrosion or poor contact at the right lamp connector or pin
  • Open circuit in power feed (broken wire, chafing)
  • Failed LED module in the lamp assembly
  • Damaged or blown fuse protecting the lighting circuit
  • Intermittent BCM output or internal driver failure

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Body Control Module detected an electrical power supply fault to the right daytime running and position light; lamp may be non-functional or intermittent.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5 - 2.0 hours
