Causes

  • Failed or damaged right DRL/position lamp (LED module or bulb)
  • Blown fuse or faulty relay for exterior lighting circuit
  • Open, short or high-resistance wiring/connectors to the right lamp
  • Corroded or loose connector pins at the lamp or body control module (BCM)
  • Faulty body control module / lamp driver or software fault
  • Water ingress or physical damage to lamp assembly

Symptoms

  • Right daytime running light and/or position light inoperative or dim
  • Warning or message on instrument panel for exterior light fault
  • Intermittent operation of the right lamp (works sometimes)
  • Uneven brightness between left and right lamps
  • Other exterior lighting behaving normally (isolated to right side)

What to check

  • Check for stored and pending DTCs with a capable diagnostic tool and note freeze frame if present
  • Visually inspect right lamp assembly for damage, moisture or corrosion
  • Inspect fuses and relays related to exterior lighting
  • Check connector condition and pin integrity at the lamp and at the BCM
  • Measure battery voltage and ground quality at the lamp connector
  • Perform a lamp swap (left ↔ right) if the lamp is removable to isolate lamp vs wiring/BCM

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage at lamp connector: approx. battery voltage (11–14 V when engine running)
  • Ground continuity to chassis ground: low resistance (
  • Control signal type: switched +12V or PWM from BCM (verify with scope or diagnostic data)
  • Control duty cycle or frequency (if PWM): expected presence when commanded ON
  • Lamp current draw: within expected range for bulb or LED module (compare left side)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Read and record all related DTCs and live data with a diagnostic tool. Note lamp state commands.
  2. Visually inspect right lamp, socket and wiring for damage, corrosion, or water ingress. Repair as needed.
  3. Check fuses and related relays; replace if blown or suspect.
  4. With lamp disconnected, measure supply voltage and ground at the lamp connector while commanding the lamp ON via the diagnostic tool. If no supply or control signal, suspect wiring/BCM.
  5. If correct supply and ground present, connect a known-good lamp or swap with left lamp. If replacement works, replace faulty lamp assembly.
  6. If replacement lamp does not work but supply exists, check wiring continuity back to the BCM and inspect connectors. Repair any open/short/high resistance circuits.
  7. Use an oscilloscope or high-quality diagnostic tool to check for PWM control signal from the BCM when commanded. If no control signal and wiring is good, suspect BCM or lamp driver.
  8. If BCM is suspected, verify with module diagnostics, check for software updates, and follow manufacturer procedures for module replacement or reprogramming.
  9. After repair, clear codes and perform lamp functional tests and a road/test cycle to confirm the fault does not return.

Likely causes

  • Faulty lamp/LED module or connector corrosion at the lamp
  • Open or damaged wiring between lamp and BCM
  • Faulty BCM output or local lamp driver

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Control circuit fault for Right daytime running light and position light. The lamp is not responding correctly to control commands — check lamp, connector, wiring, fuses, and body control module.
