Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scanner and record B13FA plus any related codes and freeze frame data.
  2. Clear codes, then attempt to reproduce the fault by operating the left rear massage function. Note whether code returns and any behavior.
  3. Visually inspect the left rear seat harness, connectors, and seat module for damage, moisture, or loose pins. Repair any obvious damage.
  4. Check relevant fuses and relays for seat power; verify 12 V supply at the seat module connector with ignition ON and when massage is selected.
  5. Verify a solid ground at the module ground pin (measure resistance to chassis ground).
  6. Check communication lines (CAN/LIN) at the module for proper bus voltages and activity with a scanner or oscilloscope. Look for other modules reporting communication errors.
  7. With connector attached, operate massage function and observe voltage/current to actuator. Listen for motor noise; if there is no motor current but supply present, suspect internal module failure.
  8. If actuator appears mechanically jammed, remove seat trim as required and inspect actuators/mechanisms. Measure motor resistance and attempt direct bench test if accessible.
  9. If wiring, power and communication are good and actuator is functional, reprogram/reflash or replace the left rear seat massage module per manufacturer procedures.
  10. After repair, clear codes and verify proper operation through a full function check and road test if required.
