Causes

  • Broken, pinched or chafed wiring between switch/BCM and LR motor
  • Corroded, bent or loose connector pins at the motor, switch or body control module (BCM)
  • Failed LR window motor (internal short/open or high internal resistance)
  • Failed window switch or interlock (passenger or master switch)
  • Mechanical binding or seized regulator preventing motor movement and causing overcurrent
  • Blown fuse or faulty relay in the power window circuit

Symptoms

  • Left rear window does not move in one or both directions
  • Window works intermittently or only one direction
  • Clicking or grinding noise from door when switch is operated
  • Blown fuse when attempting to operate LR window
  • Vehicle stores B1414 or related window circuit codes in BCM
  • Window stops mid-travel or moves slowly

What to check

  • Scan vehicle with an OEM-level scan tool and read/record related codes and freeze-frame data
  • Visually inspect door wiring harness, connectors, and motor for corrosion, damage or water intrusion (especially at hinge area)
  • Check fuses and relays for the power window circuits
  • Operate the LR window while observing switch behavior and listening for motor noise
  • Remove interior door panel to gain access to the motor/regulator for further tests
  • Check for mechanical binding by manually moving the regulator/windshield glass (with power disconnected)

Signal parameters

  • Battery voltage (~12–14.5 V) present at power feed circuit with ignition/accessory on
  • Motor supply pins: one pin should be near battery voltage while the other is near ground when commanding in one direction; polarity reverses when commanding the opposite direction
  • Idle/no-command: motor pins should be near same potential (no large differential)
  • Typical motor current draw: low (no-load) amperes up to several amps; stalled or bound motor may draw high current (can be >10 A) — use ammeter/amp clamp
  • Motor resistance (approx): low ohm range (typically

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Record codes and freeze frame, then clear codes and attempt to re-create the fault by cycling the LR window several times
  2. Visually inspect connectors (motor, switch, door harness), look for corrosion, bent pins, water, or damage; repair or reseat connectors as needed
  3. Check fuses/relays for continuity and correct operation; replace if faulty
  4. With door panel removed, perform a bench test: apply 12 V and ground to the motor leads to confirm motor runs and direction reverses when polarity is swapped (observe current draw with ammeter)
  5. With ignition on, backprobe motor connector and operate switch: verify proper voltage/polarity at the motor connector during UP and DOWN commands (one side 12 V, the other near ground — reversed for opposite direction)
  6. If no voltage at motor connector, backprobe switch and BCM outputs: verify switch sends command and BCM provides drive; if switch is not sending command, test/replace switch
  7. Check continuity between motor connector and BCM/switch; wiggle harness at the door hinge while observing for intermittent faults (common failure point)
  8. If motor draws excessive current or stalls, inspect regulator and window track for binding, repair or lubricate as required; if regulator is seized, replace regulator/motor assembly
  9. If wiring and motor are good but no drive from BCM, test BCM output transistor and ground circuits per manufacturer procedure; repair or replace BCM if confirmed faulty
  10. After repairs, clear codes and verify correct operation and that B1414 does not return

  • Corroded/loose connector at the LR motor or door harness
  • Failed LR window motor (common with age/wear)
  • Broken wiring in the door harness near the hinge/door jamb
  • Mechanical binding in the regulator or window tracks causing high current draw
