Causes

  • Open or short in wiring between wiper motor park switch and control unit
  • Corroded or loose connector at wiper motor or control unit
  • Failed wiper motor internal park switch
  • Failed wiper control module (BCM/wiper module)
  • Blown fuse or failed wiper relay/power supply
  • Water ingress or corrosion in motor or connector

Symptoms

  • Wipers do not return to the parked/rest position or stop in the middle of sweep
  • Intermittent or no wiper park operation
  • Wipers may run continuously or fail to operate correctly
  • Diagnostic trouble code B1446 stored in the vehicle control module
  • Possible erratic wiper behavior or customer complaint of improper park

What to check

  • Read and record freeze frame and related codes with a capable scan tool; clear and attempt to re-create
  • Visual inspection of wiper motor, wiring harness, connectors and body grounds for corrosion, damage or water ingress
  • Check fuses and wiper relays for correct operation and power supply to the wiper motor
  • Wiggle test harness while operating wipers to look for intermittent faults
  • Measure supply voltage to the wiper motor and ground continuity
  • Check continuity/resistance of park switch circuit between the motor and control unit

Signal parameters

  • Primary supply to wiper motor: ~12 V with ignition on (may drop under load)
  • Park-switch feedback: typically a switched/ground or switched +12 V signal — should change state when wipers reach park
  • Park-switch continuity: closed (near 0 Ω) when in parked position, open when not parked (verify with service manual)
  • Control-unit input: stable digital/analog park signal on CAN or dedicated pin; should not be intermittent
  • Motor winding resistance: typically tens of ohms (refer to vehicle-specific specs)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect full-function scan tool, confirm B1446 and any related codes; record freeze frame data.
  2. Attempt wiper park cycle with scan tool active; observe behavior and note whether park signal changes.
  3. Visually inspect connectors at wiper motor and control unit for corrosion, bent pins or water; repair as needed.
  4. Check fuses, relays and supply voltage to the wiper motor while operating the wipers.
  5. With ignition off, disconnect connector at wiper motor and check continuity between the park-switch pin and control unit pin; move wipers to park and verify state change.
  6. With motor connected, backprobe the park-switch circuit; verify voltage or continuity changes as the wipers pass the park position.
  7. If park-switch signal is missing or erratic at the motor but present at the control unit, suspect wiring harness or connector fault between them.
  8. If park-switch signal is correct at the motor but control unit does not register it, check CAN/bus communications and ground references; consider control unit fault.
  9. Bench-test or replace wiper motor if internal park switch is faulty. Replace wiring or repair connectors where faults are found.
  10. Only replace the wiper control module after confirming wiring and motor are good; reprogram if required and clear codes, then retest.

Likely causes

  • Corroded/loose connector at the wiper motor park switch (most common)
  • Failed park switch inside the wiper motor
  • Broken or shorted wire in the park-signal circuit (movement-related)
  • Faulty wiper control unit after wiring and motor have been verified

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Wiper park circuit failure detected by wiper control unit — park position feedback missing/invalid or electrical fault in park circuit.
