Causes

  • Broken or chafed wiring between Memory 2 switch and control module
  • Poor or corroded connector at the switch or control module
  • Failed Memory 2 switch (mechanical or internal electrical fault)
  • Short to ground or battery in the switch wiring
  • Faulty body/control module input circuit or internal module failure
  • Water ingress or contamination at switch or connectors

Symptoms

  • Memory position 2 does not store or recall seat/mirror/steering wheel position
  • No response when pressing Memory 2 switch
  • Intermittent operation of memory function (works sometimes)
  • Related warning or message on dash (memory system fault)
  • Other memory positions (Memory 1) may still function or may also be affected

What to check

  • Read stored freeze frame and fault details with a scan tool; note whether fault is present or intermittent
  • Visually inspect switch, connectors, and wiring harness for damage, corrosion, or loose pins
  • Operate the Memory 2 switch while observing connector and wiring for movement/poor contact (wiggle test)
  • Check related fuses and ground connections for continuity and correct installation
  • Compare operation of Memory 2 switch to Memory 1 (if fitted) to narrow fault to the switch or wiring/module

Signal parameters

  • Switch closed: near 0 ohms across switch contacts (continuity)
  • Switch open: high resistance/open circuit (OL)
  • Module input idle voltage: typically a pull-up to module reference (approx. 5–12 V depending on design) — voltage should change when the switch is actuated
  • No excessive voltage drop on supply or ground when operating the switch

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a diagnostic scan tool and confirm B1535 is current or historic; record freeze frame and related codes.
  2. Visually inspect the Memory 2 switch, connector, and harness for damage, corrosion or water ingress. Repair any visible issues.
  3. With ignition on, backprobe the switch connector and measure voltage on the signal pin while pressing the switch. Note whether voltage toggles (matches expected change).
  4. Perform continuity/resistance test of the switch: remove connector and measure resistance across switch terminals — closed should be near 0 Ω, open should be high/OL.
  5. Perform a wiggle test of harness while watching live data or observing signal voltage to reproduce the fault if intermittent.
  6. If wiring is suspect, perform a continuity test between the switch connector and the control module input; check for short to ground or battery.
  7. If wiring and switch test good, check the control/body module input for correct reference voltage and ground. Consider substituting a known-good switch if available.
  8. Clear the code, retest operation and drive cycle to confirm repair. If input circuit at module is out of spec, follow module-level diagnostics or consult wiring diagrams for further module testing or replacement.

Likely causes

  • Corroded/loose connector at the switch or module
  • Failed/dirty Memory 2 switch contacts
  • Wiring damage at hinge/seat movement area causing intermittent open or short
