Mirror Driver Right Circuit Failure

Causes

  • Blown fuse for mirror circuit
  • Open or shorted wiring (power, ground, or signal) to right mirror
  • Corroded/damaged mirror connector or pins (water intrusion)
  • Faulty right mirror motor/actuator or position sensor
  • Defective mirror control switch or switch harness
  • Faulty body control module (BCM) or mirror control module

Symptoms

  • Right mirror does not adjust or responds intermittently
  • Mirror movement is slow, weak, or only moves in one direction
  • Clicking or no audible motor noise when commanding mirror
  • Mirror heater (if integrated) may not work on right side
  • Diagnostic trouble code present and may recur after clearing

What to check

  • Read and record DTCs and freeze frame with a scan tool; note any related codes
  • Visual inspection of right mirror housing, connector, and wiring harness for damage or corrosion
  • Check relevant fuse(s) and fusible links for continuity
  • Verify good ground at mirror and ground continuity to chassis
  • Back-probe mirror connector while commanding mirror to check for supply voltage and ground
  • Swap or command left mirror (if symmetric) to compare operation and isolate harness/module

Signal parameters

  • Mirror supply voltage: typical battery range 11–14 V at rest and while commanding
  • Ground continuity: near 0 Ω to chassis (typical
  • Motor coil resistance: typically a few ohms (1–10 Ω) depending on design — high or infinite indicates open
  • Position sensor or potentiometer output (if used): variable 0.5–4.5 V relative to mirror position
  • Command signal type: direct power/ground, PWM, or serial (CAN/LIN) depending on vehicle — PWM frequencies vary by manufacturer
  • Current draw when commanding: measurable increase; stalled motor may show abnormally high current

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect scan tool, read and record DTCs and freeze frame data; clear codes and see if B1635 immediately returns.
  2. Perform visual inspection of the right mirror, its connector, and harness for corrosion, pin damage, or water intrusion. Repair as needed.
  3. Check fuse(s) for mirror circuit; replace if blown and observe whether fuse blows again when mirror is commanded (indicates short).
  4. With ignition ON, back-probe the mirror connector. Command mirror movement and verify battery voltage present at the supply pin and a switching path to ground or PWM signal on the control pin.
  5. Measure resistance of the mirror motor/actuator (with connector disconnected). Compare to expected low-ohm value; open or very high resistance suggests failed motor.
  6. Wiggle test wiring while commanding mirror to reproduce intermittent faults; inspect harness where it flexes (door hinge).
  7. If left mirror is identical and accessible, swap mirror assemblies or swap connector harness to determine whether fault follows mirror or stays with vehicle circuit.
  8. If power and ground are present and mirror motor tests good but code remains, check BCM/mirror-module outputs and related CAN/LIN communication with a scope or capable scan tool.
  9. Repair or replace damaged wiring, connector, or mirror assembly as indicated. Reassemble, clear codes, and verify proper operation and that the code does not return.
  10. If all wiring and mirror assembly check good and code persists, consult manufacturer service information for module-level tests or replace BCM/mirror control module as directed.

Likely causes

  • Open or corroded connector/wiring at right mirror
  • Failed mirror motor/actuator
  • Blown fuse or poor ground
  • Intermittent connection due to water ingress or damaged harness
