B1708
Mirror Switch R Up Input Stuck High
Causes
- Short to battery/power on the right mirror 'Up' input circuit
- Faulty mirror switch (stuck internally or shorted)
- Damaged/chafed wiring or connector pin that contacts power
- Corrosion, water intrusion, or poor connector contact
- Faulty Body Control Module (rare) or poor ground at BCM
Symptoms
- Right power mirror may attempt to move or behave as if 'Up' is being held
- Right mirror will not respond correctly to 'Up' / 'Down' commands
- DTC B1708 stored and possibly related mirror control codes
- Intermittent mirror operation or stuck mirror position
- Other body electrical oddities if wiring short affects other circuits
What to check
- Scan for codes and note freeze-frame / related mirror or BCM codes
- Visually inspect right door harness, mirror connector, and switch for damage or corrosion
- Operate the mirror switch while backprobing the switch connector to watch the signal
- Measure voltage at the mirror switch input pin with switch idle and while pressing 'Up'
- Disconnect the mirror switch and observe whether the BCM input goes low and DTC clears
- Wiggle harness and operate switch to reproduce the fault and locate intermittent wiring faults
Signal parameters
- Expected inactive (not pressed) input: near 0 V (or module-specific reference low) or 'open' depending on design
- Expected active (pressed Up) input: approx. battery voltage (11–14 V) or pulled to ground depending on system
- Typical stuck-high symptom: input reads battery voltage with switch released
- If circuit is ground-switched, expected inactive is near battery voltage and active is near 0 V — verify wiring diagram
- Open-circuit resistance: switch should show high resistance (open) when released and low resistance (closed) when pressed
Diagnostic algorithm
- Retrieve and record all stored codes. Note any related mirror or BCM codes.
- Obtain the wiring diagram for the right mirror switch input to identify pin functions, power feed, and BCM input pin.
- With ignition ON, backprobe the mirror switch connector and measure the input voltage with the switch released and when pressing 'Up'. Verify whether the input is high with the switch released.
- Disconnect the mirror switch connector. If the BCM input goes low and the code clears (or no longer reads high), suspect the switch or wiring near the switch. If it remains high, suspect a short to power in the harness or BCM.
- Inspect the connector and wiring from the switch to the door harness and through the door jamb for chafing, pinching, or water damage. Repair any damaged insulation or connector corrosion.
- Perform continuity and short-to-power tests: check for short to battery on the input wire with connector disconnected. Repair any shorted wiring.
- If wiring and connector are good, bench-test or replace the mirror switch and retest operation.
- If fault persists after switch and harness repairs, verify BCM input operation per service manual (module tests) and consider BCM repair or replacement only after excluding wiring and switch faults.
- Clear codes and verify proper function of right mirror with multiple cycles and road-test as needed.
Likely causes
- Internal failure of the mirror switch (most common)
- Short to 12V in the harness near the switch or connector
- Corroded/loose connector at the mirror switch or door harness
- Pinched wire in the door jamb/wiring loom causing constant feed
- BCM input circuit fault (least common)
