B1913
Heated Seat Switch - Mode Input Shorted to Battery
Causes
- Damaged or pinched wiring between switch and seat module causing insulation failure to battery feed
- Corroded, pushed-back or bridged connector terminals allowing B+ to contact the mode circuit
- Internal failure inside the heated-seat switch (stuck contact or shorted internal traces)
- Incorrect or damaged aftermarket wiring (seat covers, audio, alarms) tapping into constant 12V
- Faulty seat heater control module or internal short in the module
- Improper repair or previous splice with exposed conductor
Symptoms
- Heated seat mode cannot be changed or is locked in a single mode
- Seat heater stays on or runs at full heat regardless of switch position
- DTC B1913 stored and/or warning/message on instrument cluster
- Intermittent operation or operation only when wiring is moved (suggests wiring fault)
What to check
- Scan for active and pending codes and freeze frame data; record before clearing
- Perform a visual inspection of the seat, under-seat area, connectors and wiring for damage, pinching, or aftermarket taps
- Check related fuses and any inline connectors for heat damage or corrosion
- Backprobe switch connector and seat module connector to measure voltage at key pins with ignition ON
- Wiggle test wiring while monitoring connector voltages to look for intermittent shorts
- Disconnect the heated-seat switch and see if the code clears or if the mode input voltage changes
Signal parameters
- Expected: Mode input should NOT be at steady battery voltage when switch is idle; it should be pull-to-low or a controlled logic signal depending on system design
- With ignition ON and switch in neutral/off: measured voltage typically near 0–1 V (or toggling according to design)
- With a short to battery: measured steady ~12 V (battery voltage) on the mode input pin
- If equipped with a low-voltage logic input, expected high-level is system reference (e.g., 5 V) — steady battery (12 V) indicates over-voltage/short
Diagnostic algorithm
- Verify the symptom and confirm B1913 is stored; note time and any freeze-frame data.
- Visually inspect switch, harness, and connectors at the seat for damage, melted insulation, or aftermarket splices.
- With ignition ON, backprobe the heated-seat switch mode pin and measure voltage. A steady ~12 V indicates a short to battery.
- Disconnect the switch and re-measure at the harness side. If 12 V is still present, the short is downstream (toward module or accessory). If voltage disappears, suspect the switch.
- Disconnect the seat heater control module (if separate) and check the mode circuit at the module connector. Isolate whether short is between switch and module or inside module.
- Perform a continuity check between the mode pin and any nearby constant B+ circuits to identify direct shorts. Inspect for chafe points under the seat and near seat tracks.
- If intermittent, perform a wiggle test while monitoring voltage and/or use a test light to locate the short path.
- Repair identified wiring faults (replace damaged section, repair connector terminals, remove aftermarket taps) or replace the faulty switch/module as required.
- After repair, clear codes, retest system through all seat heating modes, and verify no reoccurrence of the fault.
Likely causes
- Switch internal short or failed switch
- Chafed wire contacting a constant 12V source under the seat
- Connector damage/corrosion at switch or seat module
- Aftermarket accessory tied into constant battery power at or near the seat
- Seat module fault (less common than harness/switch faults)

B1913
Air Bag Driver/Passenger Circuit Short To Ground
