Page language: EN

Causes

  • Blown or intermittent bulb/LED module
  • Open or shorted wiring between lamp and body control module (BCM)
  • Corroded/loose lamp connector or ground
  • Faulty lamp assembly (internal wiring or LEDs)
  • Faulty BCM output or internal driver circuit
  • Blown fuse or poor fuse/relay connection

Symptoms

  • Left corner lamp inoperative or intermittent
  • Lamp flicker or reduced brightness
  • Related warning lamp or message on dash
  • Possible multiple lamp functions affected (indicator/parking/side marker)
  • DTC B1C98 stored in BCM and may reappear after clearing

What to check

  • Scan for stored codes and freeze-frame data; record related codes
  • Visually inspect the left corner lamp assembly, socket, and wiring for damage, corrosion or moisture
  • Check related fuses and relays for continuity and seating
  • With lamp function active, verify battery voltage at the lamp connector (pin reference from wiring diagram)
  • Check ground continuity from lamp ground to chassis (expected
  • Measure resistance of bulb/LED module (or swap with known good lamp)

Signal parameters

  • Lamp supply voltage: ~11–14 V with lamp function ON
  • Ground resistance:
  • Bulb filament resistance (traditional bulbs): typically 2–50 Ω depending on lamp type
  • Current draw: ~0.1–3 A depending on lamp function and lamp type (LEDs lower)
  • If driver is PWM: frequency and duty cycle vary by function — check factory service data for expected values

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect diagnostic scan tool; read and record B1C98 and any related codes. Note freeze-frame and ignition/circuit status.
  2. Perform a visual inspection of the left corner lamp assembly, lens, socket and harness for corrosion, water ingress, damage or disconnected connectors.
  3. Verify fuse(s) for the circuit are good and properly seated.
  4. Activate the left corner lamp function and measure voltage at the lamp power pin. If no voltage, backprobe connector and trace toward BCM.
  5. Check ground continuity from lamp ground to chassis. Repair any high-resistance grounds.
  6. Remove the bulb or lamp module and check/measure its resistance or swap with a known good lamp to eliminate lamp module failure.
  7. With lamp removed or replaced, check continuity from lamp connector to the BCM connector. Repair any open/shorts in wiring or replace damaged sections.
  8. If wiring and lamp check OK, use a scan tool to command the lamp ON and monitor BCM output. If no output or abnormal waveform, consult wiring diagram and consider BCM driver fault.
  9. After repairs, clear codes and re-test lamp operation and drive cycle to confirm the fault does not return. Document repairs and replaced parts.

Likely causes

  • Burnt out or intermittent bulb/LED module
  • Corroded/loose lamp connector or socket
  • Open or damaged wiring harness between lamp and BCM

Fault status

⚠️ Status
B1C98 — Left corner lamp circuit fault. Indicates abnormal circuit condition (open, short, low supply, intermittent) detected by body control module; lamp may be inoperative.
