What to check

  • Check fuses and relays that supply the subwoofer/amplifier (inspect fuse rating and continuity)
  • Confirm supply and ground at the amplifier with a DVOM; back-probe connector while operating audio test tone
  • Measure speaker DC resistance with speaker disconnected from amplifier (compare to specification)
  • Listen for distortion or rattle while commanding a test tone from the diagnostic tool

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage to amplifier: ~12–14.5 V (key on/run)
  • Ground continuity: near 0 Ω between amplifier ground and chassis

  • CAN bus differential voltage: nominal ~2.5 V on each CAN line (verifiable with diagnostic tool)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a factory-level scan tool; read and record all stored and pending codes and live data for the audio/subwoofer module.
  2. Check for technical service bulletins or software updates related to audio/subwoofer systems for the specific Land Rover model and year.
  3. Verify fuses/relays: inspect and test continuity of fuses supplying the amplifier/subwoofer; replace if faulty.
  4. With ignition on, measure supply and ground at the amplifier connector. If supply or ground missing, trace wiring to fuse/relay and repair.
  5. Command a subwoofer test tone or actuator test from the scan tool while monitoring amplifier input/output signals and module status.
  6. Disconnect the subwoofer speaker and measure DC resistance. If open or shorted, replace the speaker.

  10. If code persists after the above, replace the failed component per service manual (amplifier, subwoofer, or control module) and verify repair by clearing codes and performing functional test.
