B2169
Unable to confirm the locked condition
Causes
- Faulty lock actuator or solenoid
- Faulty lock position sensor or switch
- Open/shorted wiring or poor connector at actuator/sensor
- Blown fuse or inadequate supply voltage
- Body/door/central convenience module software fault or internal failure
- CAN or LIN communication loss between modules
Symptoms
- Door/boot/steering/gear lock will not reliably lock or unlock
- Vehicle displays 'unable to confirm locked condition' or related message
- Remote/key fob lock operation appears ineffective or intermittent
- Security/immobilizer warnings or inability to arm vehicle
- Unusual actuator noise (grinding or no sound) when locking
- Interior lock switch does not change lock state
What to check
- Read all stored DTCs and freeze frame data from all modules (BCM/CCM/IPC/IMM) and note occurrence conditions
- Verify battery voltage (should be ~12–14.5 V) and good battery condition
- Check related fuses and relays for the lock/central convenience circuits
- Visual inspection of wiring and connectors at the affected lock actuator and module for corrosion, damage or loose pins
- Attempt to reproduce failure and note which doors/locks are affected
- Use scan tool to monitor lock request commands and lock position/feedback live data while operating the lock
Signal parameters
- Supply voltage to actuator: battery voltage nominal ~12–14.5 V when engine off/running
- Lock command signal: digital/diagnostic command from BCM over CAN or local switch signal (present when lock request issued)
- Lock position feedback: discrete or analog sensor (typical states: 'locked' or 'unlocked'); expected change on command
- Actuator current draw: brief surge during correct operation (higher or no current may indicate jam or motor fault)
- CAN bus voltages: differential signals present and modules responsive; no bus errors
- LIN/local serial lines: expected message/acknowledgement from door module when commanded
Diagnostic algorithm
- Verify: Confirm the customer complaint and capture conditions when the DTC sets. Check for any related DTCs in other modules.
- Battery & power: Measure and record battery/resting voltage. Check fuses and relays for the lock circuits.
- Reproduce & observe: With a scan tool, command lock/unlock and watch live data for lock request and lock position feedback.
- Inspect wiring: Visually inspect wiring harness and connectors at the affected lock and the controlling module. Wiggle test while commanding the lock.
- Measure signals: Probe supply, ground and feedback wires at the actuator during operation. Confirm proper voltage and switching.
- Actuator bench or direct test: If safe/possible, remove and bench-test actuator or apply battery power briefly to verify movement and current draw.
- Communications: Check CAN/LIN for errors and verify the controlling module is communicating. Repair any bus faults first.
- Mechanical check: Ensure latch/lock mechanism is not physically obstructed and is free-moving.
- Replace suspected failed component: Replace actuator, sensor or repair wiring only after confirming with tests.
- Clear codes & retest: Clear DTCs and perform several lock/unlock cycles. Road-test or cycle the system to confirm repair. If DTC returns, escalate to manufacturer technical bulletins or module reprogramming as required.
Likely causes
- Defective lock actuator (most common)
- Damaged or corroded connector/wiring to actuator or sensor
- Lock position sensor failed or misaligned
- Loss of module communication (CAN/LIN) preventing feedback
- Low battery voltage or blown fuse feeding the lock circuit

Unable to confirm lock Condition
