LAND ROVER B — Body

TrafficMaster Module

Brand: LAND ROVER
Type: B — Body
AI status

Completed 100%
Page language: EN

Causes

  • Faulty TrafficMaster module
  • Loss of power or poor ground to the module (blown fuse, loose/ corroded connector)
  • Damaged or disconnected antenna or antenna coax
  • CAN / LIN bus communication faults or wiring damage
  • Software/firmware error or corrupted module memory
  • Intermittent connector contact or water ingress

Symptoms

  • Navigation traffic information not available or not updating
  • Navigation app displays 'no traffic data' or similar message
  • Related infotainment messages or warnings about TrafficMaster
  • Stored B2198 code (and possibly other communication codes)
  • Intermittent loss of traffic updates or repeat faults after restart

What to check

  • Read and record all stored codes and freeze frame with a compatible scan tool
  • Check for additional U-codes (communication bus errors) that may point to bus issues
  • Visually inspect module connector(s), antenna connector and coax for corrosion or damage
  • Verify fuses and power supply to the TrafficMaster module
  • Confirm good ground at the module mounting point
  • Check antenna continuity and for obvious physical damage

Signal parameters

  • Module supply voltage: battery voltage present (typically ~11–14.5 V with ignition on)
  • Ground continuity: low resistance to chassis ground (< 1 Ω preferred)
  • Diagnostic tool: module should respond over vehicle network when queried
  • CAN/LIN bus: messages present when monitored with diagnostic tool (no bus errors)
  • Antenna: continuity present in coax and RF connection; RF signal strength reported by module (if available)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect an OEM-capable scan tool. Read and save all codes from infotainment, body and network controllers. Note any U-codes or related B-codes.
  2. Check fuses and power feeds for the TrafficMaster module circuit. Replace any blown fuses and retest.
  3. Perform visual inspection of the TrafficMaster module connector and antenna coax connector. Look for corrosion, bent pins, moisture or poor seating. Reseat connectors.
  4. Verify battery voltage at the module connector with ignition on. Verify ground continuity to chassis ground.
  5. Check antenna continuity from connector to module and inspect antenna for physical damage. If vehicle has separate GPS/traffic antenna, confirm it is present and connected.
  6. Use the scan tool to observe network traffic and confirm the TrafficMaster module is communicating. If the module does not respond, inspect CAN/LIN wiring and related connectors for opens/shorts.
  7. If wiring and power/ground are good but the module fails to respond or continues to set B2198, attempt software reflash/update per manufacturer procedure or perform module reset where allowed.
  8. If reflash/reset fails and all wiring/power/antenna checks pass, consider module fault. Replace the TrafficMaster module and reprogram/configure per factory procedures.
  9. After repair, clear codes and verify system operation and that traffic data is received. Road test or allow time for the module to acquire traffic service where required.

Likely causes

  • Blown fuse supplying the module
  • Corroded connector at the module or antenna
  • Broken or shorted CAN bus wiring to the module
  • Failed internal components within the TrafficMaster module
  • Antenna cable disconnected or failed antenna
  • Module requires software update or reflash

Fault status

⚠️ Status
TrafficMaster Module Fault — check power, ground, antenna and communication bus; module may require reflash or replacement.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 0.5-2.0 hours
