Causes

  • Loss of power or ground to the driver door module
  • Open/short or high-resistance wiring in the communication bus (CAN/LIN/K-Line)
  • Corroded or loose connector pins at the DDM or junctions
  • Blown fuse or poor fuse contact feeding the DDM
  • Faulty driver door module (internal failure)
  • Network termination resistor missing or shorted

Symptoms

  • Driver door functions fail or work intermittently (power windows, mirror adjust, door lock/unlock)
  • Scan tool cannot communicate with the driver door module or shows module not present
  • Multiple network communication DTCs reported (other modules show bus errors)
  • Dome/lighting or related convenience features affected on that door
  • Intermittent faults that change when door is moved or during vibration

What to check

  • Scan tool: verify B2261 is current or stored; note freeze frame and related codes
  • Check vehicle fuses and relays supplying the DDM
  • Visually inspect DDM connectors and door-harness routing at hinges for damage or corrosion
  • Measure battery voltage at DDM power pin with ignition on
  • Verify ground(s) for the DDM with continuity and voltage drop tests
  • Check communication bus voltages (CAN/LIN) at the DDM with meter or scope

Signal parameters

  • DDM supply voltage (ignition on): ~11–14.5 V at the module power pin
  • Module ground: low resistance to chassis, voltage drop
  • CAN bus idle: CAN_H ≈ 2.5 V, CAN_L ≈ 2.5 V (approximate); dominant state typically CAN_H ≈ 3.5 V, CAN_L ≈ 1.5 V
  • LIN/K-line idle: near battery voltage; active communications pull line toward 0 V (single-wire behavior)
  • Open/short indicators: open bus may show stuck high/low or varying levels; short to battery or ground will pull line out of expected ranges

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Confirm the code and note any related communication or module codes with a capable scan tool.
  2. Attempt to communicate with the DDM via the scan tool. If the DDM is completely absent, proceed to power/ground checks.
  3. Check fuses/relays and verify battery voltage at the DDM power pin with connector connected and ignition on.
  4. Verify ground(s) by measuring voltage drop while actuating a load or using an ohmmeter to vehicle chassis; repair poor ground connections.
  5. Visually inspect connectors and wiring at the DDM and through the door hinge area for chafing, corrosion, or breaks; repair as required.
  6. Check communication lines at the DDM with a multimeter or oscilloscope for expected idle voltages and activity. Look for shorts to battery/ground or open circuits.
  7. Wiggle the door harness while watching bus activity and module presence on the scan tool to find intermittent faults.
  8. If wiring and power/grounds are good and network signals are healthy but no module response, check for software/flash updates or module configuration mismatch; reprogram or update as manufacturer directed.
  9. Replace the DDM only after verifying external wiring, power, grounds, and network are correct. After replacement/programming, clear codes and perform functional test cycles and road/door cycles to confirm repair.
  10. Re-scan for related codes and confirm no new communication faults.

Likely causes

  • Loose, corroded, or damaged connector at the driver door module
  • Power or ground missing at the DDM (blown fuse, bad splice, open ground)
  • Broken or shorted CAN/LIN wiring in door harness (common where harness flexes)
  • Failed DDM
  • Network-level fault (open/shorted bus or missing termination)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Driver Door Module Communication Fault — module not responding or messages corrupted on the vehicle network (CAN/LIN). Verify power, ground, wiring and network integrity before replacing module.
