Mirror Passenger Memory Position Error

Causes

  • Faulty mirror position sensor (potentiometer or angle sensor)
  • Mirror adjustment actuator failure (motor or gear)
  • Open/shorted wiring or connector to mirror assembly
  • Poor ground or low battery/voltage supply to mirror/memory module
  • Faulty memory control module or corrupted memory data
  • Missing or incorrect calibration/programming after replacement

Symptoms

  • Passenger mirror does not move to recall position when selecting memory
  • Mirror moves partially or in wrong direction during recall
  • No mirror movement from memory switch, but manual adjustment may work
  • Related memory features (seat/steering wheel) may also be affected if on same module
  • Stored memory position cannot be learned or retained

What to check

  • Read and record freeze frame/live data and any related DTCs with a scan tool
  • Verify battery voltage (should be within nominal range) and proper fusing for mirror circuits
  • Visually inspect passenger mirror connectors and harness for corrosion, damage, or water intrusion
  • Operate mirror using manual and memory controls while observing movement and listening for motor noise
  • Check for corrosion or poor ground at mirror mounting and memory module
  • Attempt to store and recall position; note any error messages or unusual behavior

Signal parameters

  • Mirror position sensor voltage or resistance (potentiometer output) or digital angle value
  • Memory recall command message on LIN/CAN or dedicated control signal
  • Actuator supply voltage (12 V) during adjustment command
  • Actuator ground path continuity and voltage drop under load
  • Mirror position feedback changes while commanding movement (live sensor data)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a capable scan tool, retrieve B2311 and any related codes, note freeze-frame and live data during a recall attempt.
  2. Verify vehicle battery voltage and inspect relevant fuses and relays for the mirror/memory circuit.
  3. Perform a visual inspection of the passenger mirror assembly, connector, and wiring harness for damage, corrosion, or water entry. Repair any obvious issues.
  4. With ignition on, command mirror recall and observe whether actuator receives 12 V and ground. Use a multimeter or lab scope to check power and ground at the mirror connector.
  5. Monitor the mirror position feedback (potentiometer voltage or CAN/LIN position value) while commanding movement. Confirm feedback changes correspond to movement and are within expected range.
  6. If no power/ground present, trace wiring back to the memory module and check continuity, connectors, and grounds. Repair open/shorts or poor connections.
  7. If power is present but actuator does not move, bench-test the mirror actuator or swap with a known-good unit to confirm actuator failure.
  8. If actuator and wiring are good but feedback is out of range or inconsistent, replace the mirror position sensor or the mirror assembly.
  9. If wiring, actuator, and sensor check OK, check memory module operation and communication on the vehicle bus. Reflash or replace module if required and supported by manufacturer procedures.
  10. After repairs, clear DTC(s) and perform learning/calibration procedure for mirror memory per OEM service information. Verify proper recall and monitor for reappearance of the code.

Likely causes

  • Broken or intermittent wiring between passenger mirror and memory module (pin corrosion or chafed wire)
  • Failed mirror actuator preventing movement to stored position
  • Position feedback sensor out of tolerance or reporting implausible values
  • Memory module lost learned position data or failed to receive/accept recall command
  • Connector contaminants (moisture/salt) causing intermittent signal

Fault status

⚠️ Status
