Causes

  • Faulty mirror position sensor (potentiometer/Hall sensor) inside the mirror assembly
  • Mirror motor binding or mechanical obstruction preventing full travel
  • Damaged wiring or poor connector connection between mirror and control module
  • Faulty local mirror control unit or module electronics
  • Corrosion or water ingress in mirror housing
  • Incorrect mirror calibration or software/firmware fault

Symptoms

  • Mirror does not move correctly up/down or stops before expected travel
  • Mirror self-park or auto-fold functions fail or report errors
  • Illuminated warning in instrument cluster or message on infotainment related to mirror
  • Intermittent or permanent loss of mirror position memory
  • Noise from mirror assembly (grinding or clicking) during operation

What to check

  • Read freeze frame and clear codes, then re-run mirror operation to reproduce B2327
  • Visually inspect mirror housing for damage, water entry, or corrosion
  • Check connectors at the mirror and door junction for bent pins, corrosion, or water
  • Operate mirror up/down while monitoring connector pins for intermittent contact
  • Listen for unusual motor noises or binding when commanding vertical movement
  • Scan for related communication or body control module (BCM) errors

Signal parameters

  • Mirror position sensor typical output: analog 0–5 V (varies by model) — should change smoothly as mirror moves
  • Supply voltage to mirror motor/actuator: approx. battery voltage (11–14 V) when commanded
  • Motor current draw: small stall or run current (0.5–3 A typical) — spikes when stalled or blocked
  • CAN/lin communication: valid messages present between door module and BCM (no timeout)
  • Resistance across position sensor or motor windings: compare left/right or known-good values

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve full DTC list and freeze-frame data with a diagnostic scanner; note when fault set and conditions.
  2. Repeat the fault by operating the vertical (up/down) mirror function while watching live data for the mirror position sensor or reported value. Confirm it goes out of low-range.
  3. Visual inspection: remove mirror cap/trim and inspect for mechanical damage, debris, water, or corrosion inside the housing.
  4. With ignition on, backprobe the mirror connector: verify supply voltage, ground continuity and that position sensor signal changes smoothly as mirror moves. Check for intermittent connections while moving harness.
  5. Check motor current while commanding movement. High current or stalled motor indicates mechanical binding or motor failure.
  6. If wiring and connectors are OK but sensor output is incorrect or intermittent, remove mirror and bench-test/replace the mirror assembly or position sensor.
  7. If replacement mirror cures the issue, clear codes and verify full function. If problem persists, investigate door module/BCM inputs and outputs and update or reflash software if service bulletins apply.
  8. After repair, perform mirror calibration/memory teach procedure as specified by manufacturer and confirm no recurrence of B2327.

Likely causes

  • Wiring/connector fault at the door harness or mirror connector (most common)
  • Mirror motor or position sensor failed (next most common)
  • Mechanical binding from broken gear, ice/debris, or damaged mirror guide
  • Intermittent module communication fault or stored false reading

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Local mirror unit vertical position sensor/movement out of low range detected by body/mirror control unit. Code stored when mirror position reading falls outside expected low-end limits.
