LF CORNER LAMP OUTPUT Ckt Short to Battery

Causes

  • Damaged wiring or chafed insulation contacting a battery feed
  • Faulty or incorrectly installed replacement bulb or LED assembly
  • Corroded or bridged connector pins allowing battery voltage to feed the output
  • Aftermarket accessory tied into the lighting circuit incorrectly
  • Internal fault in the body control/lighting module output driver

Symptoms

  • LF corner lamp stays on or powered when switch is off
  • Intermittent lamp operation or flicker
  • Blown fuse or repeated fuse failure for lamps circuit
  • Battery drain / parasitic draw related to lighting circuit
  • Illumination warning or lamp-out message on dash

What to check

  • Retrieve freeze frame and active/inactive status, confirm lamp operation and any other related codes
  • Visually inspect LF lamp, bulb/LED module and socket for corrosion, damage or signs of water ingress
  • Inspect harness along wheel well and under-hood routing for pinch points, chafe marks, or aftermarket splices
  • Check fuses and any lighting relays for continuity and correct ratings
  • Disconnect the LF lamp connector and re-check the BCM output voltage to isolate load vs. circuit
  • Use a multimeter to check resistance between the output and battery positive/ground with the circuit off

Signal parameters

  • Normal output (lamp ON, key on): ~12–14 V at lamp feed
  • Normal output (lamp OFF): ~0 V or high-impedance (no battery voltage) at lamp feed
  • Fault (short to battery): near battery voltage (~12 V) present at lamp feed when it should be off
  • Fault (short to ground): near 0 V at feed when output expected to be battery voltage
  • With lamp disconnected: open-circuit continuity to battery positive indicates short to battery

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Confirm the code is current and note lamp behavior. Clear code and see if it returns to confirm repeatability.
  2. Turn off ignition and perform a visual inspection of the LF lamp, connector and wiring for damage, corrosion, or aftermarket taps.
  3. With ignition off, disconnect the LF lamp connector. Check for battery voltage at the lamp socket (vehicle side). Battery voltage at the socket with switch off indicates a short/feed into lamp wiring.
  4. With connector disconnected, backprobe the BCM/lighting module output pin for LF corner lamp. With lamp command OFF it should be ~0 V (high-impedance). If it reads battery voltage, suspect wiring tied to battery or module fault.
  5. Measure resistance between the output and battery positive with the circuit protected (fuse removed if necessary) to confirm low-resistance path to battery. Inspect harness sections to locate the short (use wiggle tests while monitoring voltage/continuity).
  6. Reconnect lamp and verify whether the lamp itself creates the short by substituting a known-good bulb/assembly or isolating LED drivers per manufacturer procedure.
  7. Repair identified wiring damage, replace corroded connectors, remove incorrect aftermarket connections, or replace the lamp assembly as required.
  8. If wiring and lamp assembly are confirmed good and short persists at the module output, consult wiring diagrams and consider replacing or reprogramming the BCM/lighting module per service manual.
  9. After repairs, clear codes and confirm normal operation through multiple key cycles and lamp commands; verify no parasitic drain and that the code does not return.

Likely causes

  • Shorted or pinched harness at lamp or along wheel arch
  • Moisture or corrosion at the lamp connector causing voltage leak
  • Bulb/LED assembly with internal short to battery feed
  • Aftermarket conversion or jumpers installing constant 12V to the lamp
  • Faulty BCM/lighting module output (less common)

Fault status

⚠️ Status
