B2647
Door Lock Actuator Circuit Open
Causes
- Broken or disconnected wiring (open circuit) between BCM/door module and door lock actuator
- Corroded or loose connector pins at actuator or module
- Faulty door lock actuator (open internal winding)
- Damaged wiring harness through door jamb (pinched, chafed, broken)
- Faulty BCM/door module output driver (internal open)
- Aftermarket alarm/remote lock installation interference
Symptoms
- Affected door will not lock or unlock with switch/remote
- No audible actuator noise from the door when locking/unlocking
- Intermittent lock operation or only works from one control (e.g., key fob but not switch)
- Other doors operate normally (isolating to one door)
- Possible blown fuse if short/failure accompanied prior
What to check
- Verify correct DTC for specific door (left/right, front/rear) in scan tool data
- Inspect door harness along door jamb for visible damage, pinched wires or corrosion
- Visually inspect actuator connector and pins for corrosion, bent pins, or pushed-out terminals
- Use a DMM to check for continuity between module output pin and actuator connector pin with doors in normal position
- Check actuator coil resistance at the connector with connector disconnected (compare to specification)
- Command lock/unlock while probing to observe output voltage/polarity at module and at actuator
Signal parameters
- No continuity (OL/infinite ohms) measured across actuator terminals indicates open circuit
- Actuator coil resistance typically in the range of ~5–50 ohms (vehicle-specific — consult spec)
- When commanded, module output typically supplies battery voltage (~12 V) to one pin and ground on the other; polarity reverses for lock vs unlock on motor-style actuators
- If BCM output driver is open, you will measure no voltage change at the module output when commanding lock/unlock
- When measuring at actuator connector while commanding, expected transient pulses or steady battery-voltage drive depending on design
Diagnostic algorithm
- Retrieve freeze frame and confirm DTC B2647 details and which door is affected. Note any additional codes.
- Visually inspect the actuator harness and connectors at the affected door and door jamb for damage, corrosion, or disconnected connectors.
- With door closed, disconnect actuator connector. Measure actuator coil resistance across the actuator terminals. If resistance = infinite, actuator likely open — replace actuator.
- With connector disconnected, perform continuity check between BCM/door module output pin and actuator connector pin. If open, isolate and repair the wire (inspect through door jamb).
- Reconnect actuator. Command lock/unlock while backprobing module output and actuator connector. Verify voltage/polarity changes at the module and at the actuator. If module output shows no activity but harness is good, suspect module driver fault.
- Wiggle test wiring through door jamb while commanding locks to reproduce intermittent opens; repair chafed or broken sections and secure harness.
- If wiring and actuator test good but no output from module, verify grounds and battery power to BCM, then consider module replacement or further module bench testing per manufacturer procedures.
- Clear codes and perform functional test after repairs. Re-scan to ensure DTC does not return and that locks operate correctly.
Likely causes
- Open or broken wire in the door jamb (most common on frequently opened doors)
- Connector corrosion or poor pin contact at the actuator plug
- Defective door lock actuator motor/coils presenting infinite resistance
- Module driver failure if wiring and actuator check OK
