BCM Internal Configuration Error

Type: B — Body

Page language: EN

Causes

  • Corrupted BCM calibration or internal memory
  • Incorrect or incomplete BCM programming or software update
  • Wrong BCM part or calibration applied (mismatched part number/VIN)
  • Low or unstable battery voltage during programming or operation
  • Intermittent or failed power/ground to the BCM
  • Aftermarket modules or wiring modifications that altered configuration

Symptoms

  • BCM-related functions intermittent or inoperative (locks, lights, wipers, etc.)
  • Multiple related DTCs present (communication, configuration, or module faults)
  • Warning lamps or message center showing module or configuration errors
  • Loss of some networked module communication (CAN Bus errors)
  • Vehicle may enter limp or degraded mode for body functions

What to check

  • Connect a factory-level scan tool and read all stored DTCs and freeze frame info
  • Record BCM part number, software/calibration ID, and VIN stored in module
  • Check vehicle battery voltage and charging system; ensure >12.4 V before programming
  • Inspect BCM power and ground connections and connector for corrosion/damage
  • Verify CAN/communication bus status and look for other module communication DTCs (U-codes)
  • Check service history for recent BCM replacement or software updates

Signal parameters

  • BCM part number and software/calibration ID (SPN/FRM values where available)
  • VIN programmed in BCM vs vehicle VIN
  • Module status flags: Configuration OK/Invalid, Programming incomplete
  • Battery/ignition voltage at BCM
  • CAN bus activity and message counts to/from BCM
  • Number of stored DTCs and last programming event timestamp

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Record all DTCs and module data with a capable scan tool; do not clear yet.
  2. Verify battery state of charge and charging system. Charge or connect a stable power supply if below recommended voltage.
  3. Inspect BCM connectors, pins, and grounds for corrosion, loose pins, or damage. Repair wiring as needed.
  4. Check for other communication or related body module DTCs (U0100, U0140, etc.). Diagnose those first if present.
  5. Compare BCM part number, calibration ID, and VIN stored in module to vehicle records. Note mismatches.
  6. If recent programming was attempted, verify the programming completed successfully. Re-attempt reprogram/restore using OEM scan tool and correct calibration files.
  7. If BCM configuration is missing or invalid, perform a configuration restore or VIN/programming procedure per OEM service instructions. Ensure stable power during programming.
  8. After reprogramming, clear DTCs and cycle ignition. Re-scan and verify no return of B2703 and that body functions operate normally.
  9. If configuration cannot be restored or module fails programming, replace BCM with correct part and program/configure to vehicle per OEM procedures.
  10. If replacement is required, follow post-programming relearn and initialization steps (immobilizer, remote key, comfort features) as specified by manufacturer.

Likely causes

  • BCM software or calibration became corrupted during a failed reflash or update
  • BCM was replaced with a unit that has incorrect configuration or VIN mismatch
  • Vehicle battery was low or disconnected during programming, causing incomplete data
  • Damage to BCM power/ground circuits causing memory errors
  • Communication errors on vehicle bus prevented configuration validation

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Stored — BCM internal configuration error detected (possible corrupted or mismatched calibration). Verification of programming and module data required.
