AUX Video Input Signal Error

Brand: HYUNDAI
Type: B — Body

Page language: EN

Causes

  • Damaged or disconnected AUX video cable or RCA connector
  • Corroded/loose connector or poor ground at head unit or video source
  • Faulty external video source (camera, video player, adapter)
  • Failed or intermittent video input circuit in the head unit/module
  • Incompatible video format (NTSC/PAL) or incorrect signal level
  • Wiring short to power/ground or internal open/cut in harness

Symptoms

  • No picture when AUX video is selected (black screen)
  • Static, snow, rolling or distorted image
  • Intermittent video: image appears and disappears
  • Incorrect colors or inverted image
  • Error message or warning on infotainment display when selecting AUX

What to check

  • Visually inspect AUX video cable, RCA connectors and routing for damage, corrosion or kinks
  • Verify the external video source is powered and functioning (test on a known-good display)
  • Check that connectors are fully seated at the head unit and at the video source
  • Scan infotainment unit for related codes and software version; check TSBs/updates
  • Inspect ground and power circuits for the external video source and head unit
  • Wiggle-test cable and connectors while viewing video for intermittent faults

Signal parameters

  • Composite video nominal amplitude ~1.0 Vpp into 75 Ω (approx. 0.5 V peak-to-ground after AC coupling)
  • Characteristic impedance: 75 ohm composite video
  • Sync pulse negative-going relative to video pedestal (~0.3–0.4 V)
  • NTSC timing: horizontal ≈15.734 kHz, vertical ≈59.94 Hz; PAL timing: horizontal ≈15.625 kHz, vertical ≈50 Hz
  • Expect near 0 V DC at input when AC-coupled (no large DC offset)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Record exact symptoms and when code occurred; check for stored freeze-frame or related DTCs
  2. Visually inspect the AUX/AV cable and connectors for damage or corrosion; repair or replace if found
  3. Verify the external video source works by connecting it to a known-good monitor or by connecting a known-good video source to the vehicle head unit
  4. With ignition on, probe the video input at the head unit connector: confirm presence of composite video waveform with an oscilloscope or a known-good tester (≈1 Vpp, proper sync and timing)
  5. If no waveform at head unit but present at source, inspect continuity of center conductor and shield between source and head unit; repair wiring harness as necessary
  6. If wiring is OK but no signal present at head unit input, suspect failed input circuit in the head unit — check for power/ground at head unit and consider head unit bench test or replacement
  7. Check/clean connectors and grounds, reflash/update infotainment software if a software issue is suspected, then clear codes and retest
  8. If intermittent, perform wiggle/stress tests on harness routing to reproduce and locate fault
  9. Document findings; replace faulty component (cable, camera, head unit) as determined and verify repair by confirming stable video and clearing the code

Likely causes

  • Loose or corroded RCA/AV connector at head unit
  • Broken shield or internal conductor in the auxiliary video cable
  • Defective external camera or video adapter (no output or wrong format)
  • Failed input amplifier/ADC on the head unit
  • Intermittent ground connection causing signal loss

Fault status

⚠️ Status
