Causes

  • Obstruction or physical binding in the RH side latch or door mechanism
  • Failing latch actuator (motor/solenoid) or internal mechanism wear
  • Failed or intermittent latch position switch or sensor
  • Open/short/poor connector or wiring to latch actuator or sensor
  • Blown related fuse or poor ground
  • Door control module or software fault

Symptoms

  • RH side door (or sliding door) fails to fully open or close on command
  • Door may move slowly, stop mid-travel, or make abnormal noises during actuation
  • Door-open/door-ajar indicator may remain on or show incorrect status
  • Remote key/central locking may not operate the affected door
  • DTC B2969 stored in body control module; related functions intermittent

What to check

  • Scan vehicle and read all stored DTCs and freeze frame data; note occurrence conditions
  • Attempt to operate RH side latch while watching live data for latch position and command status
  • Visually inspect RH door, latch, hinges, weatherstripping and surrounding structure for obstruction or damage
  • Check related fuses and relays for continuity and proper operation
  • Inspect connectors and wiring at the door latch, hinge wiring harness, and body control module for corrosion, pins pushed out, or breaks
  • Listen for actuator motor/solenoid operation when commanding open/close

Signal parameters

  • Command input from body/door control module to latch actuator (voltage when actuated)
  • Latch actuator current draw (motor current) during open/close operation
  • Latch position switch/sensor signal (open/closed state feedback)
  • Timeout threshold and elapsed time reported by control module (if available in live data)
  • Vehicle speed/ignition/lock command status associated with the event

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve DTCs and freeze frame; confirm B2969 is current or historical. Check for related codes (door, body, or communication).
  2. Reproduce the complaint: operate RH side latch from each control (interior switch, remote, key, BCM) while observing live data for command and position feedback.
  3. Perform visual/mechanical inspection: open the door, inspect latch area for foreign objects, worn parts, misalignment, damaged hinges or track (for sliding doors). Lubricate moving parts if dry or corroded.
  4. Check fuses/relays associated with door/locking circuits; replace if faulty.
  5. With access to the latch connector, command the latch and measure voltage at the actuator connector and continuity to ground. No command voltage or weak voltage indicates wiring or BCM output fault.
  6. Measure actuator current while commanding; an abnormally high or zero current indicates a seized motor or open winding. If safe, bench-test actuator removed from vehicle to confirm function.
  7. Test latch position sensor: verify the sensor changes state when latch is moved manually. Check continuity and signal to BCM.
  8. Wiggle test wiring and connectors during operation to detect intermittent faults. Repair corrosion, damaged wires, or poor contacts.
  9. If wiring and latch/actuator test good, inspect or replace latch assembly or actuator. Check alignment and adjust striker/latch as needed.
  10. If multiple components tested good and symptom persists, consider BCM/software update or replacement following manufacturer procedures.
  11. After repair, clear codes and re-test multiple open/close cycles to ensure no timeout returns and that live data shows correct position feedback.

Likely causes

  • Contaminated/dry or corroded latch mechanism preventing full travel
  • Faulty actuator that draws abnormal current or produces no movement
  • Corroded connector or broken wiring between latch and body control module
  • Position sensor inside latch not sending correct closed/open signal
  • Incorrect latch alignment causing mechanical timeout

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Right-hand side latch did not reach its open or closed position within the expected time after a command; control module flagged an open/close timeout for RH side latch.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
