Causes

What to check

  • Read and record all fault codes and freeze-frame/live data using a capable diagnostic tool
  • Visually inspect the right power strut, mounting points, hoses and nearby wiring for damage, fluid leaks or corrosion
  • Check fuse(s) and relays for the mount/actuator circuit
  • Check connector security and pin condition at the strut and at the control module
  • Measure supply voltage and ground at the strut connector with ignition on
  • Use diagnostic tool to command/activate the right strut and observe response

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage to strut: ~11–14 V with ignition on (nominal battery voltage)
  • Ground continuity: near 0 ohms between connector ground and chassis
  • Actuator coil/solenoid resistance: expected to be a low-ohm value (check OEM spec)
  • Actuation current draw: should not be abnormally high (indicates short) or open (indicates open circuit)
  • Command/feedback response: actuator should move/respond when commanded by scan tool
  • Hydraulic/pressure feedback (where fitted): pressure values should change when commanded (refer to OEM pressure range)

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Connect a suitable OEM-level diagnostic tool, read and record C1007 and any other codes, then clear codes and see if C1007 returns.
  2. Visually inspect the right power strut, mount hardware, surrounding wiring harness, connectors and hoses for damage or leaks.
  3. Check related fuses and relays; replace if faulty.
  4. With ignition on (engine off), back-probe the strut connector: verify battery supply voltage and a good ground. Note values.
  5. Measure actuator coil/solenoid resistance per OEM procedure; compare to specification. Replace if open or out of range.
  6. Use the diagnostic tool to command the strut actuator while watching for movement and change in related sensor/live data. If no response, confirm wiring continuity between ECU and actuator.
  7. Inspect hydraulic lines and fittings for leaks or loss of fluid/pressure if the strut is a hydraulic type. Repair leaks and refill/bleed system per procedure.
  8. If wiring and power are good but the actuator fails to operate, replace the right power strut assembly.
  9. After any repair or replacement, perform required adaptations/programming if required by manufacturer, clear codes and perform a road test while monitoring live data to confirm correct operation.
  10. If fault persists after replacing the strut, suspect control module or software issue and consult OEM technical service information.
