LDWS System State Not valid

Page language: EN

Causes

  • Front camera or LDWS control module fault
  • Loss of power or ground to camera/module (fuse, relay, wiring)
  • CAN bus or LIN communication error between modules
  • Camera lens blocked, dirty, damaged, or misaligned
  • Incomplete or failed camera/module calibration
  • Software mismatch, corrupted module software, or required update

Symptoms

  • LDWS indicator or warning lamp illuminated on dash
  • Message such as 'LDWS Not Available' or 'System Check' displayed
  • Lane departure function disabled or does not activate
  • Related ADAS warnings or degraded functionality (e.g., Lane Keep Assist not working)
  • Multiple related DTCs stored in camera, BCM or vehicle dynamics modules

What to check

  • Read and record all DTCs from camera/ADAS module, BCM and powertrain modules with a dealer‑level or capable scan tool
  • Check battery voltage and main fuses/relays for camera and ADAS modules
  • Inspect camera lens and housing for dirt, condensation, damage or misalignment
  • Visually inspect camera/module connectors and wiring for damage, corrosion or loose pins
  • Verify CAN bus and ground integrity (backprobe connector, check for resistance/shorts)
  • Confirm vehicle is in conditions suitable for LDWS operation (straight lane markings, clear weather)

Signal parameters

  • Camera module power supply voltage (typically battery voltage while ON) and ground continuity
  • CAN messages: presence of camera/LDWS messages on vehicle bus and no bus errors
  • Camera status flags: system ready, image valid, calibration complete
  • Lane detection outputs: lane lines detected / detection confidence
  • Vehicle speed and steering angle values as seen by ADAS, yaw rate if available
  • Error counters or internal fault codes from camera/LDWS module

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Retrieve and save DTCs from ADAS/camera module and related modules (BCM/ECM). Note freeze frame and event data.
  2. Visual inspection: check camera lens, housing, windshield area, connectors and wiring for obvious issues. Clean lens if contaminated.
  3. Check battery voltage and inspect / test fuses and relays supplying the camera/ADAS module. Repair any power faults.
  4. Verify grounds for camera/ADAS module. Repair poor ground connections or wiring faults.
  5. Use a scan tool to confirm CAN communication: verify the camera/LDWS module is present on the bus and communicating. Trace and repair bus faults.
  6. If the module reports calibration invalid or requires calibration, perform manufacturer‑specified calibration procedure on a level road or in a service bay using the approved tool.
  7. Check for software updates or TSBs. Reflash/update module software if recommended by manufacturer.
  8. Clear DTCs and test drive in suitable conditions. Recheck for reappearance of the code and confirm LDWS function.
  9. If DTC persists after power, communication and calibration checks, consider replacing the camera/LDWS module per service manual and repeat calibration and retest.
  10. After repair, verify all related module DTCs are cleared and perform final functional test of LDWS and related ADAS features.

Likely causes

  • Contaminated or obstructed camera view (lens contamination, cover)
  • Camera/module not powered or poor ground connection
  • CAN communication errors between LDWS camera/module and BCM/ECM
  • Failed or out‑of‑date camera/module software needing reflash
  • Calibration required after windshield, camera, or front assembly replacement

Fault status

⚠️ Status
LDWS System State Not valid — lane departure system disabled or unavailable. Check camera/module power, communication, calibration and lens condition.
🟡 Repair difficulty: Medium
⏱️ Diagnostic time: 1.0-3.0 hours
