Causes

  • Actuator motor or internal gear failure
  • Open or short circuit in actuator wiring
  • Poor connector seating, corrosion or bent pins
  • Blown fuse or faulty relay feeding the actuator circuit
  • Failed ground or high resistance ground connection
  • Mechanical binding or obstruction of the actuator linkage

Symptoms

  • Right‑side component does not operate or moves intermittently (door lock, window, mirror, HVAC flap, seat adjuster depending on vehicle)
  • Warning message or lamp on dash related to affected system
  • Abnormal noise (grinding, clicking) from the right side when operation is commanded
  • Related system functions disabled or operate in limp mode
  • Stored diagnostic trouble codes and possible freeze‑frame data

What to check

  • Use a diagnostic scanner to read freeze frame data and confirm C2005 and any related codes
  • Identify which right actuator the code refers to from vehicle service manual/wiring diagrams
  • Visually inspect actuator, connector and wiring for damage, corrosion and water ingress
  • Check relevant fuses and relays for the circuit
  • Perform an active test/bi‑directional control (if available) to command the actuator while observing its operation
  • Backprobe connector to confirm battery voltage and ground while commanding the actuator

Signal parameters

  • Supply voltage at actuator terminal: ~12 V (battery voltage range 11–14.5 V) when powered
  • Ground continuity: near 0 ohms to chassis ground
  • Actuator coil/motor resistance: manufacturer specified ohms (check service data)
  • Current draw when activated: typical motor current (hundreds of mA to multiple A) — compare to spec
  • PWM/duty cycle or control signal frequency if actuator is PWM‑driven (refer to service data)
  • CAN or LIN bus status if actuator is networked: normal bus voltage and message traffic

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Read and record DTCs, freeze frame and live data with a capable scan tool. Note any additional codes. 2. Consult the factory service manual to identify the exact right actuator referenced by C2005 and review wiring and connector locations. 3. Perform a visual inspection of the actuator, connectors and harness for damage, corrosion or water ingress; repair as required. 4. Check relevant fuses and relays and verify power and ground at the actuator connector with the key on. 5. Attempt an active test/command of the actuator from the scan tool while observing and listening for operation. 6. Backprobe the actuator connector while commanding: verify battery voltage on power pin(s) and good ground; note any intermittent or low voltage. 7. Measure actuator resistance and compare to manufacturer specification; measure current draw during operation to detect excessive or no current. 8. Check for mechanical binding by manually operating the mechanism (safe procedure per manual) and clear any obstructions. 9. If electrical supply and mechanical path are good but actuator still fails, disconnect and bench‑test or swap with a known‑good unit if available. 10. If wiring or connector faults are found, repair with correct splicing, seals and protection. If actuator is faulty, replace with OEM or equivalent. 11. Clear codes, perform self‑tests and verify repair by re‑testing the system and road/operational test as needed. 12. If fault persists and wiring/actuator are good, consider module reprogramming or module replacement following manufacturer diagnostics.

Likely causes

  • Failed actuator motor or internal gearset
  • Connector corrosion or disconnected connector at the actuator
  • Broken or shorted wiring between actuator and controlling module
  • Mechanical binding preventing actuator movement

Fault status

⚠️ Status
Right actuator circuit fault — control module detected out‑of‑range response or no operation from right side actuator. Inspect actuator, wiring and module.
