Diagnostic algorithm

  4. Measure sensor output at rest — analog should be near mid-scale (e.g., ~2.5 V) and should move smoothly when vehicle is yawed or when steering is turned; use oscilloscope if available to check waveform quality
  5. Perform continuity and resistance checks between sensor connector and ABS/ESC module to rule out wiring opens/shorts; inspect for high resistance grounds
  6. If communication-type sensor, verify CAN bus is healthy (check other CAN devices, bus voltage, and termination) and that messages from the sensor are present and valid
  7. Wiggle the harness and connectors while monitoring for code set or data dropouts to find intermittent faults
  8. If wiring and power/ground are good and sensor output is out of range or erratic, replace the yaw rate sensor
  9. After repair or replacement, clear codes and perform required calibration/initialization of the yaw sensor per OEM procedure (many systems require calibration or a drive routine)
  10. Re-scan and test-drive to confirm the fault does not return and that ESC/ABS systems operate normally
