Causes

  • Open or shorted injector wiring harness
  • Corroded/damaged injector connector(s)
  • Failed injector coil (open or shorted)
  • Faulty injector driver transistor(s) inside the ECU
  • Blown fuse or faulty fuel injection relay/supply
  • Poor or missing ground(s) for injectors or ECU

Symptoms

  • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated
  • Rough idle, misfire or engine vibration
  • Loss of power, poor acceleration
  • Hard starting or no start in severe cases
  • Intermittent stalling or poor drivability
  • Increased fuel consumption and emissions

What to check

  • Read freeze frame data and stored DTCs with a diagnostic scanner
  • Inspect wiring harness and connectors at all injectors for damage, corrosion and secure pins
  • Check engine fuses and fuel injection relay for continuity and operation
  • Measure injector supply voltage (should be battery voltage with ignition on)
  • Measure individual injector coil resistance with multimeter and compare to specification
  • Back-probe injector control pins while cranking/running to verify ECU command pulses (use oscilloscope or noid light)

Signal parameters

  • Injector supply voltage: approximately battery voltage (~12 V) present at injector + terminal with ignition ON
  • Injector coil resistance: typical ranges vary by design — common high-impedance injectors ~10–16 Ω, low-impedance (saturated) injectors ~1–4 Ω; consult vehicle spec
  • Injector command: pulsed signal from ECU (low-side switching on many systems) 0–12 V square pulses; pulse width ~0.5–15 ms depending on load and RPM
  • Noid light test: injector should flash in sync with engine cranking/running
  • Oscilloscope: clean square/rectangular pulse with expected amplitude and consistent timing; noise, clipped or absent pulses indicate driver/wiring issues

Diagnostic algorithm

  1. Capture freeze frame and full DTC list; note any related codes (P0201–P0208, P030x).
  2. Perform a visual inspection of injector harness, connectors and ECU connectors for damage and corrosion. Repair obvious damage.
  3. Verify injector supply (battery) voltage at each injector connector with ignition ON. If missing, check fuses/relays and trace supply. Repair as needed.
  4. Measure static resistance of each injector coil and compare to specification. Replace any injector with out-of-spec resistance.
  5. Back-probe the injector control pin while cranking/running with a noid light or oscilloscope to confirm ECU is commanding the injector. If commands present but injector not operating, suspect injector or connector.
  6. If no command signal, check continuity between ECU driver pin and injector connector; look for short to ground or to battery. Repair wiring faults.
  7. Swap a suspect injector with a known good injector (when cylinder-specific code present) to determine if fault follows the injector or remains on the circuit.
  8. If wiring and injectors test good but no command is present, check ECU power/ground and related engine control fuses; if power/ground is OK and fault persists, consider ECU driver failure and consult manufacturer's ECU diagnosis before replacement.
  9. After repairs, clear codes and perform test drive while monitoring live data to confirm normal operation and that code does not return.

Likely causes

  • Wiring damage near engine (heat/abrasion) causing short to ground or battery
  • Corroded or contaminated connector pins at injectors
  • Single injector coil failure on affected circuit
  • ECU driver channel failure when multiple cylinders on same driver show faults
  • Blown fuse or poor supply/ground connection

Fault status

⚠️ Status
P0200 (DF052) — Injector control circuit malfunction. Indicates open/short/intermittent circuit or driver failure affecting injector control. Inspect wiring, connectors, injector coils, fuses/relays and ECU driver channels.
